Would you report/grass up your wife/husband/partner for drink driving?
Was having an interesting conversation with a mate last night. Basically her husband had come home (dropped off) with mates from his christmas party last friday night and was very drunk. They were getting changed to go out in town. After he'd said hello, taken off his monkey suit and recounted tales of office drunkenness etc he grabbed his keys and they all got in his car saying they couldn't get a taxi (midnight ish) and were driving into town. She begged him not to but mates all encouraged him and they sped off (it's a fast car, big saloon) She was obviously upset and is still not happy with him. He's admitted he was being a **** and is now very sorry and ashamed of himself. She said she nearly called the police after he drove off but didn't. If she did and he got picked up (likely as he'd be driving past the station into town!) then he'd obviously lose licence and his job which involves a lot of driving. She doesn't work so they'd have been pretty screwed with a big mortgage, school fees and god knows what else to pay which is shy she said she didn't call the police.
What would you have done?

From what she said, they were all in the car engine on before she realised (and they hadn't mentioned it, they said they were gonna get a cab)) (she'd been in kitchen) and she ran out as they were turning round on the drive. He put window down and she shouted to stop etc but the lads egged him on. Short of jumping in front of the car there wasn't much she could do. It wasn't like they were arguing about it in the hallway, they knew she'd try to stop them so did it quickly while her back was turned.

The question that's important is "WHAT IF?"
What if he had run someone down, killed them, and you had let him drive off in the first place. Could you have lived with yourself knowing that you could have stopped it happening or at least tried to stop it?
Drink driving is nasty. End of.
I would shop my best mate in if I had too.
I am a serving Police Officer and it is one of my pet hates. It is very surprising how many people are caught every single week. And that's just the ones that are caught so who knows how many people are actually not getting caught.

She should have jumped in front of the car then or stood in front of the driveway entrance. Anything really. It's unlikely they'd have mown her down and if he forcibly moved her she would have felt ok about calling in the OB.

I guess she didn't want to risk jumping in front of ~2 tonnes of car that can accelerate to 100 mph in about 12 seconds being driven by someone pissed up under a lot of pier prssure, (i don't know if i would either!). It all happened in a few seconds, she was really shocked/upset as well probably and you don't think clearly in that sort of situation.
I'm not trying to debate what she should have done at the time to stop him (it doesn't seem like she could have done much) but afterwards having had time to think for a minute whether people would call him in to the police knowing you may lose your house, kids wouldn't be able to go to their school anymore, lose your cars etc.

I wouldn't have called the police, however I would have given him a right ****ing bollocking and slapped his mates ****ing hard for egging him into doing it.
I'd also make him feel ashamed to think about doing something so stupid and how weak he must be letting his mates egg him into it in the first place !!!!!!
If the **** did hit the fan then I wouldn't hold back with a "told you so" or two..
"No taxi ! sorry Lads, unless you can find someone sober to drive then I ain't going anywhere"... how big and Macho do you need to be to say that... Not that hard. IMO

Was my feminine side showing through there. PMSL.
Just trying to see it through a womans eyes, sounds like I did a good Job.
Don't watch Emerdale Sti-04, so that joke is lost on me.
As Rig says though, if it's going to happen it will, just be thankful it wasn't you doing the driving, pride yourself on having more sense.

He wasn't even supposed to be coming back between times

In all seriousness, divorce would have been threatened accompanied with a final warning if my beloved ever thought about it....serious no no in my little book or priciples.

Tricky situation, and a very unfair one for the husband to put his wife in. Obviously there is a right answer on ethical / moral grounds, but in that situation, she had many things to consider.
His "mates" should be ashamed of themselves, and he should be very, very ashamed as they all acted like a bunch of hormonal, and naughty, little boys!
If he did it again, I think she'd have no choice but to ring the police!

Been there. Not grassed up though
Lets just say the person in question is:
a) a ****e driver
b) has no idea of the consequences of being pulled
c) thus wears no seat belt (and promply puts it over his shoulder when seeing plod)
d) uses phone whilst driving
e) doesn't listen to anyone
f) seems to think he is immune to the law
That's when he's sober!
He's old school, as in he was brought up in the days when you could have a skinful and drive back in home from the pub - it was still accepted back then (within reason). He doesn't totally comprehend that today you cannot do that.
He can and will get totally slaughtered. And if you give him the opertunity, he will drive. No question about it. He even plays devils advocate and intentionally shouts I'll drive knowing he'll get shouted down for volunteering. But when in the wrong company, people will let him dive. He will never stay off the drink when he's supposed to drive back, meaning somebody else has to do it (and that includes muggins - who would plan on getting rat-arsed but can't thanks to keeping a lookout on this irresponsible feejit).
The worst is he'll drive other people. He doesn't understand that when your the driver, you are responsible to your passengers.
Granted he is not as bad as he used to be, and I have vowed to report him, despite pleas not to. But he still neck 3pints and drive home without a single thought about it crossing his mind, and that what gets me. He doesn't see it as wrong, it will only be until he gets pulled, tested and banned that it will sink in. It makes me livid that even I have to consider doing this, as no voice of reason works from me, or anybody else for that.
It was the same with my uncle and my dad (same generation) they had to learn the hard way. They got caght and paid the price (banned).
Mark my words, one day he will be reported. It's not fair on anyone.
