Bangkok - Any tips?!? suggestions?
I leave for Bangkok in 3 days.
Any things I should check out? tips, etc?
Can I buy xbox 360 games out there? I've seen websites like play-asia and curious to know if region free games can be bought in shops there.
(please dont suggest ladyboys, the dodgy night life, etc.)

Go to the shopping district in Bangkok(a taxi driver will take you there) there is a shopping centre full of pirate software it is unbelievable! You can get ANY software from Vista to corporate licences for things like Oracle worth millions of dollars. It really is pirate capital of the world.
Fake watches are also very quality however never ever pay more than 25 to £30 for a good grade watch.
When buying a watch they have low-grade and high-grade always ask for high-grade.
Another tip: when leaving your hotel ALWAYS get the address of your hotel and directions written down in Thai English language is never used.
If you can stay at the Bangkok Hilton is a real five-star hotel for three star prices.
Get a massage..... really worthwhile.
Also you can go to bathhouse for a massage with a "happy ending"

Don't believe a word any of the locals say to you. They are all trying to screw money out of you. You have to be very firm with them. Taxis will tell you they will take you direct to where you want to go but will then make a detour to their brother's clothes shop and then insist you look inside. Use the SkyTrain to get around as it is excellent.
I found the big shopping malls to be good for electronics. The foodhalls in them are also great for local cuisine.
If you like table tennis, make sure you go to one of the bars by Patpong market to watch some 'pingpong'

Pantip Plaza for pirate dvd's, PS2, PC progs etc. But won't your X-Box need to be chipped to accept the pirate games?
Proper taxi's are a lot cheaper than Tuk Tuks (but make sure the meter's running); they've got aircon, and they don't take you to all the tailors, gem shops etc.

True, we preferred taxis due to the aircon.
Dare to take a bike courier ride once though, for the hell of it!
The place you need to go is MBK Shopping Centre. Right by, I think National Stadium Skytrain station. 4th or 5th floor are just solid electronics; it was mainly any accessory ever manufactured for mobile phones, when I was there (about 4 yrs ago). There were also 2 good shops next to each other on about the 6th floor that did excellent DVDs for 2-3quid each.
Hope this info isn't dated.
Top restaurant of the Baiyoke Sky hotel will give you a nice view, too - 88th floor I think. Food ain't stunning, but is OK.

The Grand Palace is well worth a visit. Also take a trip to the floating Market, its about an hours drive from Bangkok but well worth it.A trip on the skytrain is good, also stay away from Soi Cowboy in the Asok area.
I had a week in Sukhotia then two weeks in Jomtien Beach, followed by 3 days in Bangkok, did not rate Bangkok much.
OH and dont forget a ride on a Tuk Tuk.Experience not to be missed.

No 360 games there yet.
Always take metered taxis and insist the meter is on. You shouldn't have any trouble with them.
Computer stuff/DVDs etc is Panthip Plaza.
Generally the best shopping is Mah Boon Khrong (MBK centre), but around that area you also have Siam Square and the new Siam Paragon centre that is very impressive (Ferrari and Lamborghini dealerships on the top floor)
Bangkok Shopping Malls
Patpong night market and Khao San rd are the best places for cheap knock-off. 700B max for watches like Rolex, 350-400 for Omegas/Tags. Watch out for the upstairs places in Patpong (ping pong shows), many are clip joints are will rip you off. Pretty safe on the ground floor establishments which are just go-go bars. If you must go upstairs stick with one of the bars that belongs to the "Kings Group"
The Baiyoke Sky Tower has a crappy buffet on the 88th floor but the views are pretty good. If you want better food then there is an open air restaurant on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel
:: Banyan Tree Bangkok - Dining ::
Chatuchak weekend market is an experience and also Suan Lum night bazaar is pretty good to hang around at night. Especially with the giant beer dispensers you can have (5L with a tap and a frozen centre section to keep it cool)
Bangkok Markets
These places are worth checking out after dark :
Q Bar Bangkok - Raising the Bar for Nightclubs in South East Asia
bed supperclub
Concept CM2 Bangkok Night Club
Glow - Nightclub and Lounge Bar, Bangkok Thailand

club bed is the nuts. Every one IS lying to you.
Go to pat pong to find a ping pong show. go to the kao san road once never again. get to chang mai or kanchanaburi if possible. avoid taylor shops at all cost unless they are part of a 5 star hotel. Watch some
kick boxing but get the cheapest tickets as they are great for a view of the action and the crowd. Avoid the sex trade at all costs all the ****** have AIDS and have probably been sold into sexual slavery at the age of 12-13 unless you want to support that don't give child sex slave masters any of your money.

also if a tuk tuk driver asks you for 200 baht you want to be paying about 30. If a guy tries to sell you a watch for $50.00 the real price will $5.00 they wil argue to the death over tiny amounts of cash when they have ripped you off a treat already and you havn't done a deal unless you have walked away already and had him chase you back. Despite this keep smiling and joking asiuts just how they barter.

Lucky barsteward. Came back from my 5th tour of Thailand in Nov and spent 7 days in BKK, love the place. Some people find it imtimadating but it's only first impressions, Get out and enjoy.
As mentioned Pantip Plaza is the place for anything electrical/computer associated.
Go and watch this show which I think is a must do if visiting BKK,
Siam Niramit : Journey to the Enchanted Kingdom of Siam
I second KiwiGTIs recommedations aswell. Bed Supper Club is 2 rooms one sort of your typical disco affair and when we went the other room was more chilled out tunes and really does have king sized beds you chill out on!! You will need your passport to enter thou (i.d.).

Not a fan of Khao San Road, backpackers area, cheap thou. If you would like to see how the rich Thais party try Ratchadapisek Road. Loads of bars and clubs and you will get well looked after and you may well see some Scoobs .
Do you like fishing and Whiskey by any chance?? Who you going with / where you staying and are you stopping over for an onward journey?

Mermaids by any chance ?
I'm not going to Learn, just going out to see my brother, he's out there for three months learning to be an instructor.
Thought I may as well have some fun this New year being free and single an all.
