What an idiot !

Goes out on the town, drinks the alcohol equivalent of 12 whiskies, smokes some pot, then drives his car at 90mph through Piccadilly,while carrying 4 passengers, crashing into a lampost. All of the 5 occupants are injured, one fatally.

I think the Personalised number plate was just an additional subtext to paint a picture of a rich, reckless ********, it worked.

1. His mates clearly *knew* how stoned he was and really shouldn't have got in the car with him. I feel sorry for the guy in the BMW that he hit head-on. Maybe the beemer didn't have his fog lights on for some reason and was less visible as a result?

2. The personalised plate is indeed mentioned to have a dig at the sort of people who buy "vanity plates". And why not!

Personalised number plates do not make a person reckless or wild. It is down to his total irresponsibility and he deserves to serve the full sentence at least.

Leaving aside the length of the sentence, why are people like this ever allowed to drive again? 8 year ban is about the most I've heard of, but he clearly ought to be given a ban for life

Maximum sentence for death by dangerous driving is 14 years, if you plead guilty (which he did) you automatically get a 50% "discount" so the maximum he could of been jailed for was 7 years. Sounds like the judge gave him just about the harshest sentence he could unfortunately

Some odd things in that story...it first says he hit a lampost, then it says he hit a car head on, and I can't see an Evo in the picture....

either way he deserves what he got...
