Default BBS Sports personality of the year shocker

A darts player is in the shortlist.....

BBC SPORT | TV/Radio Schedule | Sports Personality | Ten compete for BBC Sport award

Oh, but darts isn't a sport, is it.

If its on merit then it has to be Taylor or Calzaghe. Trouble is one is not viewed as a sport and the other involves punching someone in the face.

Foggy won 4 world championships and did'nt get a look in.

Saw the betting odds the other day and Phillips was second favorite (travisty)

IMHO Clarke (and the sympathy vote) is not right either.

My vote goes to Calzaghe. 9 years he's been world champion with no recognition within those 9 years. Seems to me that if your not a fat overweight heavyweight boxer, your not worth anything.

Best fight I've seen Calzaghe in, was teach that American Lacy, a lesson in real boxing.

I don't understand why its called sports "personality". "Best Sports man/woman", "best sports achiever", yes.

Apart from those that have appeared on reality shows or sat next to ally mcoist on a game show, do we really believe these people have personalities that are worthy of an award.

Steve davis

Ellan Mcarthur

Great at what they do, but would you really like to be entertained by them for a night ?

Hasn't Calzaghe said that he won't accept the award if he wins?

The winner will be named after a public vote by phone and text during the BBC One show, which starts at 1900 GMT.

Looks like you have to wait till they give out the numbers on the show.

Since it uses coordination of hand and eye I think it does qualify as a sport. Don't forget all that lifting and putting down of pint glasses too.

Hear what you say but Mansell won it twice (not exactly Mr Personality)

Rusedski won it (the only thing hes ever won)

Tripple Jumping not exactly the most popular spectator sport (Edwards)

Phillips is second favorite this year (for what?) I've never even seen her on a horse on the telly.

Taylor is a very special tallent and if he was Dutch and they had a Sports Personality award he would have won it every year for the last 10.

Just because Nigel Mansell was not a great public speaker is does not mean that he did not deserve the award since he was a brave and skilful driver who was able to make the car do what he wanted it to better than anyone else on the tracks at the time. He achieved it through sheer determination.

Yeah I agree. I was saying that just because Foggy was / is a prize **** was no reason for not winning sports personality for at least one of his world championships.

Zara Phillips will get votes off women who just want to vote for royalty, or just like Horses.
That Golfer bloke will just get vote because his wife died. Sad that his wife died, but that doesn't mean he deserves the award.

Both these elements will be drilled into the public eye on the night. £5 says that while the Golfer and Zara will get say 5 minutes coverage of there achievements, the likes of Calzaghe will be lucky to get 90 seconds.

I think the BBC would rather Zara or the Golfer win. Higher profile names.
