obviously its very funny, more so as she looks like she has ended up in the ditch and now, seemingly can't be arsed to move!

Was not that long ago that most people would be sorry to see an accident like that and would be concerned for the lady concerned. They certainly would not have been disposed to take advantage of a person's misfortune when they are worse of than themselves.
It must have given her a hell of a fright. I don't see anything to laugh about in this case.
I thought it was just the Germans who are prone to Schadenfreude.
