If you knew
Before you answer the below question please take into account this person is 27 and has no school qualifications, but has city and guilds i.t level 1,2, and html level 2 web desigfn qualifications, it is someone who wants to turn his life around but has no idea on what to do.
If you knew someone who was a drug dealer, then they stopped selling drugs, but want to try and make a decent life for themselves, would you allow them to try or would you always have nasty thoughts feelings towards them, even if they had showed sigsn of process towards a normal life.
discuss ?

This is a tough one. The idea someone wants to get their life back in order is all well and good but and it is a big but (not mine btw) I would always have in the back of my mind, how many lives he may have ruined. Drug dealers are the scum of the earth. Drug users are the pathetic ones. So if you said a reformed user I may have said, go for it, a pusher, I am not so sure

Im not on about every pusher, but someone whos life was a mess but it kept them aflot making money, they got jailed for it, did some time, in jail.
Person gets out is ecellent on a computer, can create or wreck a system in minutes, one charge was hacking a server with evidence, person used to hate society, but now wishes he had a good job because he is excellent in the i.t field, but can never get a good job, so its either someone gives him a try or goes back to his old ways, only this time more clued up on how to avoid detection.

Give him a chance then. But you can't take him on with doubts in your mind. You must be absolutely sure he is reformed and regrets what he has done. If this is the case, even with my hatred of pushers, I would. Someone has to, otherwise how will he ever get over is mistake

No doubt that the doubt will be there in the back of the chance giver's mind (if he is acquainted to the history of the person), but the doubt will fade if the chance taker proves to be improving.
He deserves a chance.

Done the crime, paid his dues, provided they have stayed on the straight and narrow since leaving jail, yeah give them a chance.
Just make sure you have a suitable probation period, and sit regularly to review their progress, chances are they aren't going to be used to normal work, so may have difficulty adjusting, plus you can see if they really know their stuff.

Would like to give him the benefit of the doubt but would constantly be worried that 1) he may be busy hacking summat he shouldn't and 2) he may realise that he will never make as much money working for someone as he will selling drugs.
If he is busy hacking your systems he could do any manor of stuff that you will never know about, backdoors, trojans etc that he could exploit once he realises drug dealing and hacking is more profitabe than working 9-5 in a mundane IT job.
Alternatively he could be the model employee you just never know.

to be honest c & g qualifications especially levels 1, 2 and probably 3 are not worth anything. This was the case years ago anyway. Like some have said, if he has previous for hacking then he could be up to anything. He could have a big stash of cash somewhere that he needs moving out into various accounts, seems far fetched I know but possible
