Default Link machine not giving cash.

Wife used a Link machine on Friday to withdraw £20.
Entered her number, machine asked how much, she pressed the £20 button & the card just popped out & no cash came out.
Checked her bank (Barclays) & its registered and debited her account.

Any ideas about next steps?

It might sound complex, but what do you think to calling the bank in the morning?

Do a search - there was a thread on here a few days ago where someone had been given more money than they asked for at a cash machine.

Get in touch with them, they probably have your twenty quid.

Call the bank, I had a similar thing happen the other week, went to the cash machine to withdraw £200, pressed all the right buttons and nothing happened, so I just done it again without thinking and got my money, checked online and it said 2 lots of £200 had been taken seperately on that day at the same cash machine but then when I looked again it said £200 in, so it had been debited back to my account luckily, so I didn't need to bother phoning them in the end.
I'm with Barclays aswell, but I would phone them up and explain.

The machine will realise it's made an error and automatically cancel the transaction

Just go into the bank and ask for an ATM dispute form.

The ATM's have a journal of all transactions, and it will quickly be rectified. Sounds like the inbuilt software didn't catch teh fact it should have been reversed.

Thanks guys, just the feedback I was after.

Davyboy, MrShades - I kinda figured out the "ring the bank" bit myself. Was more after experiences people had with similar situations.

I once put my card into a machine at Sainsburys, entered my PIN then was confronted with a Microsoft fatal error screen then a blue screen of death.

It rebooted and dumped me at a Windows NT login prompt with no card.

Damn things.

Thumbs down

Used a debit card on holiday in France at a "La Poste" (French post office) cash machine.

I asked it for €250, it agreed, then gave me a slip of paper saying "operation annullee, (cancelled).

I was going to chuck the slip in dsigust, but held onto it and checked my account on my return home. Sure enough, same date and time, I'm debited €250

Took me 6 months to get it back via my bank. No reason, no apology and no return of interest/compensation from La Poste. Cheating *****
