Default Ligament damage to my ankle!!

Had a bit of a mishap on tuesday night and managed to fall over causing damage to my ankle ligaments....No drink involved so the pain was quite bad!! lol

I'm now in a plaster cast from my toes to my knee for the next three weeks and it is beginning to drive me crazy!! I can't sleep comfortably, can't bath without having my leg tangling out the tub, takes forever to get up the stairs etc etc etc! Plus my crutches are really beginning to hurt the palms of my hands, but I've put some bandages over them now to take the edge off of them.

My question is, as I'm able to put a small amount of pressure on my foot (with the help of a 'shoe' the hospital provided me with) with my crutches, if this gets easier sometime sooner than the three weeks would there be any chance I could get my cast off earlier? Beginning to get fed up of the damn thing already after only 3 days.

I broke my ankle a few years ago and had a full length plaster on at first which was then reduced to just below my knee. I know how you feel and it is very annoying! With time i could slowly put more pressure on it but i didnt want to rush it as it would be weak afterwards. Trust me don't rush to get it off. Wait until it is strong enough or you'll have problems later on! I know lads that have had a knee injury through footy, hurried to get back playing and damaged it again straight away! Now they can't play because of it

Let your body heal itself properly!

Ouch, I did my ankle too. Playing football though. I knew it was bad when i heard the ankle snap. Didn't walk for about 2 weeks and then took about 6 months before i could play football again. Bloody painful. just take it easy!

When I was on crutches after breaking my femur, I found a pair of mountain biking gloves were just the job as the padding on the palms made things more comfortable.

Ouch!!

I was in plaster from my ankle to my hip when I split my kneecap in half. It's a nightmare trying to sit down for a dump when you can't bend at the knee!

Best of luck

weight lifting /cycling gloves may ease the pain in your hands .. I too tore my ankle ( achilles) when plying football ... serious amount of pain!! and was out of action (ie walking unaided) for Six Weeks! it does get less 'uncomfortable' in time. .you just seem to adapt and get accustomed to the plaster being there..
