Default Charity for old PC bits

Does anyone know of a charity in the south east that can either make use of or redistributes old pc bits like drives, cd roms, printers etc?

It's not a lot of stuff, just a few bits I've got kicking around but I'd rather they went somewhere they would be used rather than in a skip or on ebay for pennies.
I'm sure I read about somewhere that used kit and built lower spec PCs for churches and schools etc but can't find where it was.

What if one has had material of a personal nature saved at one point. I have heard this information can be accessed by someone who has the know how to do so.

Hello

You could try here: The Freecycle Network(tm) - Changing the world, one gift at a time.. I have got rid of some things to grateful people and also picked up a Zip drive to see what was on those 100mb Zip disks kicjing around my office.

Anyone else worry that you send your old kit to the third world and then they use it to try to scam you ?

Nah, not if you wipe it properly. I've got access to proper tools for disk drives so no worries there.

We donate our stuff from work to the local primary school, may be worth checking out local schools and stuff.
