Default Help Re SD Memory Card

Having just bought a 4GB Memory card and installing it in my card reader it is suggesting that I must Format it before use. I cannot remember doing this previously with a lesser card!
Also when I did the first step it only gives the option that the card is 981MB (1GB) and not 4 GB.

Do I format it and if so I hope it does not limit it to 1GB capacity.
As you can tell I am no expert on this!!!
Help Please!!

If it's a 4GB SD card then it'll require a reader that's SDHC compatible. Looks like yours isn't

Do check with the supplier before you part with any cash - my only SD card is a 1GB, but I know most cameras won't cope with SD cards >2GB because of the need for the relatively new SDHC standard.

The card is to accept MP3 for my soon arriving Audi RS4 which has 2 SD slots behind the Sat Nav.
Any idea where to get SDHC reader?

TBH I'd be more worried about whether your car has one. Support for 1GB cards is pretty much universal. 2GB cards may or may not work, it depends on the software in the device accessing the card. SDHC and 4GB+ cards are pretty new, though, so I'd be surprised if the car supports it.

2gb cards work fine in the audi, 4gb ones do not.

Beginner's question then: As I now own a 4GB and so as not to waste it, can I format it on an SDHC reader to 2gb so it will work in the RS$? (or do I just have to buy a 2gb card and put the 4gb in storage till technology catches up?
