daughter had one for a job in a bank, consists of general questions that you would put down on an application form and at the end of it she was successful and was asked to attend a proper face to face interveiw.Have a few key answers ready just in case..reasons for wanting job..travelling problems..start and finish time flexibility etc.....its just a glorified paper sift...good luck

Competency based interview are where they’ll ask you questions and ask you to give situations of how/when/what you did etc.
Nothing to worry about, but you have to be quick on your feet

I've just had to do this
They put you in a situation and ask what you'd do, you give an answer. Then they say 'what would you do if you couldn't do that?'. Basically, whatever answer you give can't be done for some reason so you have to constantly think of new answers!
I quite enjoyed mine, I must have done OK too cos I start in two weeks!
Good luck!
PS, give me your email addy and I can forward some stuff on for you

Competency based are where the interviewer asks about 4-6 questions which all begin with "give me an example when". For each question they are looking for your answer to demonstrate the relevant comptency.
They should outline each competency before they move onto the question.
They will often drill down into more detail as you go through each answer to get what theyre looking for out of you.
I have been on both sides of the table for many competency based interviews.
My key advice is think of 4-6 instances in work (or life if your work experience is a bit empty) and prepare the examples in detail. My last competency based interview asked me for examples relating to the following:
/ Communication & Influencing
/ Customer Focus
/ Leadership
/ Commercial Awareness
/ Achievement Drive
/ Problem Solving and Analysis
/ Managing Change
/ Technical Expertise
These were for a senior BA job, which I now do
Hope this helps. PM if there's any more I can do for you. Good luck
