Perth - Australia
Me and 3 Mates ages 22-25 are going to Perth in Jan next year.
Can you recommend the best places to go??
Touristy, Bars, Clubs, site seeing etc...
all the 'must see' things
with regards to the clubs we're all into our house/dance, don’t know how catered for that'll be...?
Have heard about big beach parties they have on Sundays most weeks, any particular ones or are they quite random???
TIA

Got to be honest - whilst Perth is a lovely clean and respectable City, there's **** all to do there. We were in a bar one night on our own - in the centre of Perth and the guy was waiting for us to leave so he could shut up...at 9pm! It's a nice place, brilliant for families etc. but not in the same league as Sydney and Melbourne. Freemantle was the best bit - loads of bars and that there and a nice ferry ride (where if you're lucky, you'll have dolphins swimming and jumping alongside!) but even that was a bit like a East UK seaside down resort but without the Butlins....
If you head North, there's Broome which has a good reputation....

Done Perth as a backpacker as part of a trip round the whole country! Bloody amazing place, the whole of the country that is!
From what I can recall , Perths not as lively as Sydney or Melbourne but theres still some great parts.
We found Subiaco good for a night out some more seedy areas good also. Fremantle was lively with plenty of bars and has a nice vibe. If you fancy a trip to somewhere a bit more relaxed, head over to Rottnest and hire a bike for a couple of days. For beaches around the area, you need to head to Cottesloe or Scarborough, both highly recommened.
To be honest, I think a week or two in Perth is about enough, head up north to Broome for more of a party lifestyle.
Check out this site, has some good info:

You just have work on their timetable. The nights end early because everyone is up in the blinding sunshine at 6am.
Most people have finished work by about 3pm.
Early evening the bars are heaving with fit, tanned aussie girls

Have heard others mention this... perhaps it's not all doom and gloom after all!
Sure we'll make the most of it no matter what its like!

Every time I go home it seems the girls are getting fatter...
Perth, the most remote city in the world and a nice place to visit but like Flightman was getting at, best thing to come out of Perth is the road to Sydney

Cottesloe, the strip at Freemantle and parts of Subiaco will provide heaps of entertainment although Subiaco is like Sydney in that its full of Westies bigging themselves up.
Perth is far more cultured than Sydney and doesn't suffer from the local Ozmericans who sadly dominate Oz these days. There's heaps to do especially if you like the outside lifestyle with the Swan river providing sailing etc down to Safety Bay and Cottesloe. Rottnest has got a bit overrun nowadays but still worth a day trip at the weekend/Friday arvos providing you have your own boat.
Haven't a clue about the night life as my experiences are too long ago.

I was over in Perth WA working a few years ago. We stayed for about two nights in the Sheraton in the centre before de-camping down to the Esplanade Hotel (Esplanade Hotel Fremantle - Welcome) in Fremantle. From what I can remember, Northbridge in Perth is the best place for bars/pubs/restuarents in the actual city, whereas all the bars/pubs (which were better) were effectively on the hotel's doorstep in Fremantle.
Remember chatting on a phone back to the UK after a few (hic!), sitting on a pier with my legs dangling over the Indian Ocean annoying my girlfriend back home

I'd allocate about 2 days in Perth and then move on to somewhere interesting.

Well its has happened everytime I've been out there.
The gym & pool in Freo were full at 6am. As was the bar at the Sail & Anchor most afternoons.
Can't comment on the girls as I didn't ask their ages
If you get bored in Perth hire a car & drive south to Dunsborough. Only a days drive & fabulous surfing coast as well as the wineries.

Weren't you the guy who was begging for money a while back?
You've done well to sort yourself out if you can now afford a holiday to Perth!
My friends emigrated there earlier this year, so I'd like to go and stay with them. But my girlfriend has family on Vancouver Island and wants to go there next year - oh decisions, decisions!

Hello everyone!
blimey scoobynet's changed a bit since i was on here last!?!?
all a bit flashy aint it!
Well i'm still in Perth with my family...
going over to the east coast in a few weeks, got a job lined up working in the mountains in NSW with free lift pass and ski hire which is a result!!
Well Perth is a reeeeally nice place, very clean! BUT it certainly isnt a very lively place!
Week nites in the town are just dead! saying that there are huge queues at the weekend for anywhere half decent, but qeueing all night is no fun!
see plump DJs and Roger Sanchez in the summer so its not THAT bad i guess!
did the rottnest bike ride, really enjoyed that, thanks for the tip!
forgot someone mentioned it to be honest!
cant wait to get over on the east coast, didnt realise but west australia's population is only a bit more than Essex!!!
and its 14 times bigger than England, haha, crazy!
The beaches are amazing! was body boarding at scarborough the other day, waves were huge, and i'm not that great a swimmer!!!
Wez

Nice one, the beaches are definetly the best aspect of Perth. Scarborough was my favourite and Cottlesloe was great for wimmin! Especially Sunday afternoon for the Sunday Session!
I got back from Perth 3 weeks ago, went for a mates wedding, and stayed 3 and a half weeks.
Was very, very surprised at how quiet (actually boring) it was and how EXPENSIVE it was! $8 for a pint!!!! It was almost London prices, reall pi55 take money wise!
Sydney was very cool, and I've been told by several people that Melbourne is an awesome city!
Anyway, glad you're enjoying it! I'd never been in waves like they are there before and started bodyboarding as much as I could, now determined to learn to surf but Texas isn't that "wavey!"

Melbourne is ace, especially Grand Prix weekend, and its not too hot at that time of year. I love Sydney but am always surprised at how hard it is to find a restuarant open after 9pm.
Perth will be real hot in January!

Sweet, yeah I think I mentioned the Rottnest ride, well worth the sore backside! I guess you hired one of the crap bikes?
Have you visited Fremantle yet? I kinda liked that place as it was different from the city, quieter and somewhat quaint.
Where abouts are you working in the mountains? I guess Canberra area as they have snow in the mountains there?! Try and spend some time in the blue mountains, a few days is perfect to check the area out!

Been to Freo quite a lot, they seem to shorten all words here and put an o on the end haha
yeah hired one of the ****ty bikes too haha! some great beaches on that island, postcard picture stuff!
I will be based in a place called Jindabyne... think there's a film out about a murder there at the moment i dont care though! Cant wait! not expecting too much in the way of powder, prob get less than 2mtr of snow in a season at best, but i think its gonna be a great experience, going into a house share, sharing a room with a bird as it stands....should be interesting!

Should check out Raffles Hotel on the Swan River at Canning Bridge , Applecross- This place heaves at the weekend . The food and beer is great there and the women dress to kill - I think it is the best pub in Perth by a mile .
