Question Holidays?

Anyone been to Dominican Republic, on previous thread the only opinion was it was a poor holiday.
Have looked at various sites and the general opinion is that it is good, these site are hosted by holiday co. so they are going to post good views. Anyone got experience good or bad? cheers

Well worth reading about hotels and stuff at certain places even if it just gives you an idea of what to expect

Went to Dominican Republic last year with the missus

All inclusive 4 star for 500 quid...thought what a bargain

The first day thought wow great.......then the diarrohea started

After a week of the chronic craps we both went down with chronic gastroenteritis...3 days of liquid projectile hell out of both holes

3 hotels had been affected (this happened the previous year too).....1 poor bloke i met dropped his brown milkshake in the lobby trying to make it to the hotel doctor

they stopped flying ppl in and offered free flights out so we left 3 days early

now in the process of getting compensation from thompson through a law firm

The Daily Mail christened it the 'septic isle' so i wouldnt bother....the hygiene standards are too bad

Lord Shrek.....a bad doner kebab in Blackpool wont send you on the pot squirting liquid for 4 days

i had the typhoid/cholera jabs, didnt touch the salad (washed in the local water) and didnt brush my teeth using the local water supply BUT still managed to **** twice my bodyweight in less than 48hrs

Tips to avoid constant crapping:

eat hot food only
dont drink the water
dont drink the local rum/gin/vodka

Lord Shrek......it comes out of your bum like a bullet from a gun

Been to Cairo CANNOT be dirtier/unhygenic than there.
Tour guide said Dont touch anything, if you do touch anything dont wash your hands even with bottled water(unless you bought it outside Egypt) as they just re-bottle from the tap!!.
Dont even want to think about the toilets

I went about 10 years ago and it was really nice..Stayed in the south of the island and back then everybody went to the north...Neither of us got the 2 bob bits nor did any of the other guests we talked to..
Was all inclusive but everything was cheap as chips..191 rum was £2.50 a litre..Trip into santo domingo was eye opening but everyone was friendly and we never felt unsafe..
Only thing that was a pain was the leccy kept on going off so no AC in the room at times...

Dom Rep. is cheap for a reason ... as suggested above, choose a hotel suite with a nicely decorated bathroom as the rest of the holiday will be largely immaterial.

Also, the island is absolutely filthy so pick a nice hotel 'cause you may find you don't wanna leave the resort... we didn't.

been there twice (Playa dorada in puerto plato) and had a great time as long as you dont get the platter splatters!

Anyway you can get a dodgy tummy anywhere, stayed at an expensive hotel in cancun and was hopping on and off the loo for a week.
