NTL Vs SKY

NTL Vs SKY
We currently have NTL Phone,TV & Broadband package which we pay on average £55/mth including the telephone calls. The TV package gives us all of the usual SKY channels but excludes the premium channels i.e. Sky Sports 1,2 & 3 and the Movie Channels.
As I want to watch the Ashes series over Xmas, I called NTL to find out how much extra it would be to add SKY 1 & 3 to our package. The reply nearly floored me, an extra £14.50/mth!!!
At this point i mentioned cancelling the subscription and moving to SKY. They suggested talking to their cancellations dept. first who may be able to offer a better deal.
Before I approach them, I thought i'd ask on here what people are paying for their TV, Phone & Internet service from NTL, SKY and others.
Armed with info. I shall do battle this afternoon.

NTL BB - 10mb £34.99
Sky - the works £40 odd quid
BT - whatever standard rental is + calls
Could go all NTL but dont want to put all my eggs in one basket, especially when that basket belongs to NTL!!

NTL 4meg Broadband, TV same package as you inc Sky Sports and a phone line. Usually costs about £75 a month.
Considering changing but dont fancy a capped Broadband line with Sky as I download a fair bit.

From my experience, the picture quality and the fact you can have Sky plus would be worth paying any extra for me anyway.
We have to have NTL as we can't get Sky, and the picture is definitely worse.
Having said that, the broadband has been superb. Regularly get my full 10meg speed.
Regarding price, I don't think there is much in it, I think NTL charge whatever Sky do for the same package - i.e. Sports, movies etc. With NTL though, a lot of people seem to get extra bits (faster broadband, Sky sports package etc) free or for next to nothing by threatening to quit. Their retentions department seem to offer some great deals if you just ask.
