Just had an email from my boss telling me that in the next month i will have to head over to a customers location in Qatar.

the airlines are great, thats true but becuae of the asian games in doha they have been hammered for space.

was there dec 2004, quite nice at that time of year as it aint too hot
about 20 deg or there abouts.
eating out is good too, many many places and the hotel restaurants are very good.

it's a dry country (ie no drink) but talk to folk based over there as they can get a licence to buy it, and then theres always the hotel bars.

locals were quite friendly, did'nt have any problems at all.
big U.S. army and navy base there and oil companys a plenty so plenty of white faces going about.

i didnt try driving over there as they are all mad, just take a taxi as they are cheep

I've only stopped over on the way to Iraq, but if it's anything like Kuwait, expect a nice shiney, western exterior, with a sh1tty arab filling.
Cheap and tacky gold, rip off DVD's and PS games and more health and hygiene horrors than you can shake a stick at. Stay in the larger souk's and it's pretty OK. For the full middle east experience, go into the back streets after dark. (Not on your own though)
