http://www.heathrowairport.com/porta...0036821c0a____

The Department for Transport has announced a further relaxation in the security restrictions at UK airports effective from the start of business on Friday, 22 September 2006.

The revised security measures allow for:

*
an increase in the size of the hand baggage permitted onboard and
* musical instruments to be taken onboard.

In addition, BAA will now be allowing passengers to take solid cosmetics in hand luggage.

This easing of restrictions is not a return to normal as the revised regulations will continue to have an impact on our airports' operations. All passengers will be subject to hand baggage restrictions and are asked to be patient while these additional security measures are in place. Passengers are asked to allow extra time for their journey and to arrive at the airport prepared.

Hand baggage restrictions
Passengers are permitted to carry ONE item of hand baggage, no larger than the specified size, through the airport security search point. The dimensions* are as follows:

*
56 centimetres long (approximately 22 inches)
*
45 centimetres high (approximately 17.5 inches)
*
25 centimetres deep (approximately 9.85 inches).

Just so you realise, your handbag is one item of hand luggage, so don't be tempted to carry a handbag and a seperate item. Same goes for laptops, if you take a laptop, you can't also have another bag.

1 (and only one- handbags must be put inside the one bag for security) bag measuring 56x45x25 cm
Solid cosmetics now permitted.
Laptops out +jackets off+ shoes off for security.
No liquids except certain prescription medicines can be taken through security.

They are being **** with a capital 'A' at airports at the moment- especially thiefrow & shatwick -and when I walked past it last, the ecnoomy check in queues were out of the terminal building (heathrow t4), and the security queues were a nightmare- even the fasttrack one.

Pisses me off somewhat that I can come back from the states with my usual carry on (2 bags) + toiletries in a clear bag in carry on + duty free, and get through security very quickly in the US (yet more thoroughly! ), yet flying out of this ****ty country I am more restricted- despite the fact its the same airline and the same sodding plane. Speaks volumes for BAA's incompetence really.

I would check both your airline and departure airport web-site for the latest news.

When i flew to Belfast last week (from Birmingham), Flybe had a smaller carry-on baggage size that the standard airport allowance (although double the normal weight).

Shoes and belts off at security, and jacket and laptop separately x-rayed.

mb
p.s. It seems to have gone very quiet regarding the "potential" bombers who were arrested (some of whom didn't even have passports!).

You want to go to High Wycombe where some of them were arrested - they are still searching/investigating their houses - the police presence is still mahoosive!!

I'm not sure what they have done with 'suspects'..
