Chinese puzzle...Nail in 'E' shaped wood

Default Chinese puzzle...Nail in 'E' shaped wood

Bloke has just brought this puzzle into my office and the challenge is to remove the nail.

Anyone any ideas? There's certainly no signs of tampering and the nail through the block of wood is as straight as a die.

So what are the rules? cant you just saw one end of the wood off and pull the nail out?

Boil the E shape softwood , clamp upper section real tight, drill hole for nail and insert nail at middle section, unclamp and re boil.

Is the nail threaded, i.e. unscrews in to 2 parts but the join is hidden becuase of the wood?

Chuck it on the fire. Remove nail once cold.

Just boil it, expand it, then remove it, thats how they put it in there
