Question Electric Guitar Lessons

My son does some teaching at home but thinking about getting more home students and possibly asking local schools if they need a part time teacher - say a day a week. At his old school he had some lessons but had to pay.

Anyone any experience, either teaching or as a pupil? Would he necessarily need any formal teaching qualifications for example and what is reasonable hourly charge to make?

FWIW He is a good player (IMHO) with a Level 4 Diploma in modern music with a merit and can give some decent references.
Thanks, dl

I paid £15 an hour to a guy who was recommended to me. I have no idea what his qualifications are but his ability to pass on his knowledge to me is exceptional.

I'm still lousy but inspired

Edited to say I think he is "cheap" by comparison.

My daughter has music lessons at school, keyboard, and I have to pay for those.
Have a word with a few schools and see if they'd be interested for extra coaching. Sounds like he has all the right qualifications
He could also advertise in the local papers, extra tuition. Good luck

We pay £8.50 per half hour to a guy who was in The Dave Clark Five for my daughter, I'm sure that you must need some qualifications to teach, it wouldn't surprise me if you had to have the full criminal records check (possibly working with kids etc.)

All useful stuff thanks. I have suggested he has a word with the head of music at his old school. Thinking about local papers as well. Actually he did some workshops for the local council kids playscheme last year and went through the CRB checks but I don't know how long that lasts for. Rates sound about par for the course. Better than shelf stacking at Tescos dl

There are two local music shops I go to for strings and both also have tuition on offer. Might be worth checking those sort of places out.
Remember, it's not only kids who want to learn CRB checks wouldn't be needed then.

I learned to play the piano as a child with the stuffiest old biddie you can imagine, with a million qualificiations.........and I hated it So I gave up as soon as I could argue with my parents and get away with it.

I wish I'd met my guitar tutor back then I would have been some sort of rock chick

Hmmm... maybe it is too far. But thanks anyway

Good advice from the rest of them though.
