Question Anyone heard of VMC-Vehicle Mileage Check Ltd

Changed my car about 3 months ago and got this form through the post today about my old car. Wants mileage details of when bought and sold etc. Never had this before, is it the norm now

I've had one as well - nearly a year after I sold the vehicle concerned. At the time I ggogeld for them and they seemed legit. Similar to HPI, and presumably trying to compete.

Dealer I bought my car from gave me a certificate showing the mileage was checked by them. I believe the delear contact them, and they contact previous owners to verify the mileage is as the odo says.

I don't mind, just want to make sure it is legit. It's asking for who I bought it from and sold it to and approx dates.

I'd ignore it personally. If it turns out to be clocked, someone might claim that you did it.

That is not possible, the mileage was very low and I enclosed the mot certificates with the sale

Yes - they already knew my name, address and reg number of my old car: it's not like I was giving much away!

yes theres a thing called the national mileage register, where mot data, service data, logbook data, hpi checks etc are stored, well only the recorded mileage at the time but it helps build a database

not quite allways correct though, as if some numpty at a garage or fills in a piece of paper wrong you can end up with a mileage discrepency

ive got a bmw convertible with 81,000 miles

data recorded is

25,9,05 80,000
21,7,05 78,000
4,6,05 78,022
11,5,05 71,000
6,5,05 75,000
1,5,03 83,773
1,5,03 83,000

as you can see the whole of the data recorded is absaloute bollox !!
a complete joke and my car shows a mileage discrepency on hpi

Yeah, I've had one before. I traded in my 106 GTI for a Clio 172 (big mistake) and several months later, got a VMC mileage check through the post.

Filled it in, and sent it off. I did wonder that if your car has low mileage when you sell it on, they want to confirm what mileage it had, so that any new owner would know the mileage was legit, and the car has not been clocked.

VMC have been operating for years out of Marple, near stockport. Used to collect huge bags of mail off them back in my postal driving days
Totally legit company, just like HPI

I think it depends how you look at it. Someone is making money out of the information you're giving them....for free

I'll complete it and send it off.
As I said before tho', I gave all the invoices and mot's with the sale, so it will be a bit of guess work

they keep sending me letters about my imported FTO i had a few years back

I found out AFTER the event, that the car had been clocked before it hit UK shores,

i also know the next owner clocked it, seen it on autotrader with even less miles on it than when i bought it, so i ignor them, i dont want **** at my door.

And i didnt make the same mistake with my second one. once bitten twice shy n all that

[quote=apples24

i have a car which has a decimal point after the mileage. after the last mot, the guy who filled out the form had multiplied my mileage by 10!! he's mot'd 2 of these cars for the past 2/3 yrs and does it every time - we get them changed before we pay, so god knows what figures end up being recorded!

ps my mileage was probably about 2,300.0 at mot this year. 23,000 is clearly very different!
