Getting a lamppost moved.
Can it be done ??
My friend owns a house & there is a lamppost right slap bang on the entrance to his drive, the way he looks at it he could get his 3 cars on his drive if this pole is moved say 6ft either way.
If so how & what would the cost implications be ??
Thanks

ask the local highways authority - they control the streetlighting if it's on an adopted highway. they may say no, so if he can come up with a few good reasons to support his request (ie more vehicles off the highway, therefore increased road safety etc etc), then they may entertain the request. he should brace himself for a hefty quote for the work though

im sure if he offered to pay for it to be done, it would be done, prob looking at like £5k tho !
i had a car crash and pulled up about 10 foot of metal fencing, they quoted me £1800 for the job, i thought of calling rouge traders LOL
good luck.....

I had a similar problem at my previous house.
Council policies may differ but I found out the following:
You need to pay £10 to apply for permission cross the footpath.
To have the lamppost re-sighted it will cost itro. £400. and a similar charge to have the kerb dropped. (they did however offer to do a 2 for 1 for me.)
Have a look on the title deeds. If the lamppost is on his property and is not mentioned on the deeds then he can charge them rent !!
HTH
Paul.

Why buy the house then complain about the Lamp post?
Same as these people who buy a house at the bottom of a Airport runway, then complain about the noise

I don't think he is complaining. More like investigating in to resolving a problem that something can be done about.
A few phone calls and a few hundred pounds isn't exactly going to get an airport moved.
