anyone been on any bargain cheapo holidays?
looking on expedia etc i see you can go to teneriffe etc for as little as 200 per person !!! i was going to treat the wife to a uk hotel for a couple nights but blimey 7 nights abroad sounds more tempting lol
thinking of departing around 9th nov
are these holidays real **** pits? ok yes self catering, but surely for the money must be smashing fun ?
any recomendations?
was looking at one £360 quid for the pair of us for 7 nights inc flights etc, self catering ones are you likely to get stung at the local resturants etc?

Doesn't seem that cheap to me. Laura and I went to Gran Canaria last april for £320 per person for 14 nights in self-catering appartments. The appartments were nice enough and located in a safe and quiet part of Maspolomas. We took £1000 of spending money ate out every night in trendy Melonaras restraunts and we did plenty of activities including car hire to drive around the island, etc, etc. Overall it seemed like a 'normal' holiday in terms of costs, etc. If I went looking for something 'cheap' I'd be wanting 14 nights for 150 per person or less and I'd have zero expectations!

have a look at BA they are doing some flight offers at the moment.
200 quid isn't particularly cheap for that time of year. Best bet if you're no expert and dont want to take too much of a risk, is to go by star ratings. If you dont want a crap shower, dodgy electrics crappy single beds and pillows like rocks dont go 2 star.
Also try www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk. Not the best designed website in the world but has just about every hotel in every resort listed with feedback from other holidaymakers... I find it very good.
BTW weather in the Canaries is unpredicatable in Winter. I went and it was in the 90's a week later a mate went and it was cloudy every day

a couple of years back i paid about £340 for AI 3* to Sharm El Sheikh which i thought was really cheap. There's some cracking offers if you shop around. As long as you go and don't expect too much. As with all hols- they are only as good as the company you go with.

That was a little while ago, and haven't looked recently...

With the self catering, it's not going to be palatial...... But, you shouldn't be spending much time in the apartment really anyway. As long as the linen is clean, that's the main thing...... You don't have to eat in the hotel, and generally don't see why you would want to anyway. Hopefully it won't be Las Americas, but I wouldn't be put off by it being cheap.....

middle of the school holidays this year (less than 2 months ago) me and the other half went to Rhodes for £150per person all in couldnt complain, nice hotel etc in a decent location.
www.lastminute.com have 3 or 4 nights in Magaluf for £60, was going to go this week myself but used my holiday days to have this week off instead
should EASILY find a week away for £100 per person at this time of year
Your problem is because your going in November and your looking at booking now, if your going on the 9th of November and your not bothered where your going then wait til the 5th and start looking

just got back from a £159 week in greece. Atrocious 5am flight times and usual cattle style treatment with queues and delays. Have said never again after no sleep for 38hours. However ill probably find BA again want over £500 each for flights to rhodes at decent times... (didnt use the accomdation as we went to another island. but it was still the cheapest way to do it)

Went on a £450 self catering holiday in January a couple of years back in tennerife, and we had a better time than when we spent £1200 all inclusive. okay the hotel was not up to the all inclusive standards, but we were not tied to the same restaurant every night. And the cash we saved went on water sports, bungee ***** and all inclusive fishing trips (missus sunbathed and got drunk).
