Paying yourself a £1,000,000 p/a (for example) salary then 'giving' the rest away isn't done for no reason at all.

If he would bung me a sneaky 1/2 mill, I would promise to reuse carrier bags.

And that big Firery ball in the sky that's getting hotter & hotter

It's been proven that our Planet was completely Tropical before the Ice age. The Planet is just going back to where it once was. If it never heated back up after the Ice age, non of us would be here.

Global warming? Global Bollox.

Yes, man may well be polluting the planet, but we can't stop mother nature restoring the planet back to what it was.

Classic Branson, the "me too" rush for a bit of PR, in this case lining himself up alongside some serious philanthropists, everyone says what a great Brit he is, how good he is etc, then it all fizzles out into nothing, but that's a while off, and no-one follows it up... He does know how to get free publicity better than anyone, though.

Tom Bowyers unauthorised biography is a good read.

Come on, I'm sure you can think this through yourself. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Research into alternative energy
  • Subsidising renewable energy projects
  • Replanting areas of lost forestation
  • Etc.

Sky is saying Bransons intention is "to help wean the world off oil and coal", yet at some point in the last 12 months I remember his last big PR exercise; Branson announcing his going into the oil refining business, as fuel costs rocketed. Once again, postioning himself as the saviour of us all. What a bull****ter.

I might as well claim my fitting double glazing is a contribution to saving the world...

Edit: they're quite big windows

It's all about the ££££

I think Branson is a top bloke and have a lot of respect for him.
But he hasn't got to where he is today by giving away the profit his company makes.

Sorry, but there has to be more to it.

He's not giving his money away - I doubt Friends of the Earth will be seeing any of it. He's investing it (am I right to assume 'invest' means looking for a return - i.e profit?). Virgin Energy will probably be another of these firms asking us to switch our electricity and gas supplier. Lee-Swindon's got it right.

Hardly giving it away. He's investing the next 10 years profits in research into alternative fuel development from which he will stand to make an even greater fortune.

Maybe it is a selfless gesture, give him the benefit of the doubt, he is getting old, is minted and perhaps wants to give something back, he doesnt seem like a complete hard headed business *******, there is a bit of the old hippy about him.
