Question Will Top Gear be castrated?

In the light of the Hamster's crash what do you think the fall out for Top Gear will be?

I think at the very least they will stop the stunts. Although I could see it going back to being a factual show without JC like it was before. But ratings would go through the floor and it would probably be axed if that were to happen.

Well they can't carry on "critically injuring" their presenters for ever can they? ?They'll run out of staff willing to take the job on.

The H&S exsecutive will have a field day. Don't expect "Star in a resonably priced car" to continue either.

Why?

The car crashed, it was a risk, but they had ensured that safety checks and emergency response units were available... so I can't see the H&S Exec issue....

Basically, Richard was being paid (was he ??) to do this stunt / job. therefor this makes it an 'at work' situation, hence HSE getting involved.

Don't go ribbing the HSE already, they are doing their job same as Richard was his, Jeremy his, ambulance driver his etc.

HSE get involved when their is a significant issue in an 'at work' situation, nothing more .

I'm surprised it's not happened before, though we know most of the challenges, for example the "turn your car into a boat" are staged, but you do wonder how close things might actually be.

Accidents happen and this is an unfortunate case of just that. Hopefully the ol hamster will be back on his feet soon.

think the HSE wil say everything that was done as it shold have been, the safety guy they interviewed was quiet happy with the prcautions taken, after all his injuries are to do with motion changes not direct injuroes such as roll cage failing and crushing him

its a case of **** happens

they new the risks and unfortunatly the element of chance happened.

But one word thats been banded around the news is that it was a STUNT, it wasnt really was it, it was a record attempt. Someting which is attempted every day world wide, just some records are more dangerous than others.

They are dragging up past stunts are trying to portray todays presenters and producers as being wreckless, its simply not the case

i think you are over reacting a tad !! why would they stop it !?! just because he got hurt , people get hurt doing things everyday , will they put a stop to all activities ?? if they do it would be bloody typical of the nanny state , trying to wrap people up in cotton wool . the next thing will be mountains are dangerous , stop people climbing them !! they'll fall off and hurt themselves !!
bleedin pc brigade and the nanny state , i wish they would p%%s off !!
there that has made me feel all warm inside , ahhh bleedin coffee is too hot , ban that

Just surprised it happened on Top Gear, he's on Brainiac and they do some real mad stuff on that. Wishing a speedy recovery and no changes to the Top Gear format.

It will be reportable under RIDDOR, and as such the HSE may choose to investigate to ensure the stunt was compliant with UK health & safety regulations but that's all...................

If the Beeb ****can the show, SKY or someone will snap it and the presenters up.

JC and JM will probably hold it together with the Beeb. He was taking part in a Record Attempt not a stunt. The emergency services etc where there and no doubt all the H&S stuff was done. BUT, let's not speculate just yet.

Mindy Hammond as already said " She understands what happens and still loves him to bit's".

So Sod the TV for now and think of The Hamster and his family.

Top Gear will not be the same without Hamster.

Even if he recovers he may well be disabled in some way, a crying shame !!

I thought he was already disabled - being 5 foot ****-all!

Hope he makes a speedy recovery and gets back to his old ways soon.

nothing will change imo, it was an accident, so what, things happen all the time, it wasnt a stunt but like someone has stated it was a valid record attempt, he will be back on the show and top gear will live on!

By the sound of it, being a shortarse might have saved his bacon, if it was Clarkson his head would have been driven another 18 inches into the ground.

I would hope it wouldn't affect the show, its about fast cars and cars crash some times. People crash all the time in motorsport and they don't ban it.
Presumably the show is insured for that sort of thing.
It sounds like they were taking all possible precautions, what more could they do.

I don't think the would be able to go back to the old format, The presenters wouldn't do it and I don't think anyone would watch it anyways.

Hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

My worry is all the PC nimbys will have a field day and use this as ammunition to stop Top gear in its current form.

They were complaining before, and no doubt they will use this a justification for their cause.

Crying shame. I just hope the decision makers use common their sense and not bow down to them (as before). Hammond knew the risks, safety precautions were taken and little else could be done.

I hope he pulls through this, as does the show. It's the only thing worthy of paying the TV license.
