I bought the 42WLT58, the predecessor to the 66 range and the picture was terrible.
Have a look over on AVForums where there is a lot of info on this tv, the thread is about the 42" but same problems are mentioned.
I sent my 42WLT58 back to the retailer after complaining to Toshiba, they rang Digital Direct and supplied them with an RMA code.
The quality of blacks on these LCD's are terrible, you can edit the basic picture settings which improves things slightly but it's not the quality you'd expect. I have just ordered a Panasonic 42" Plasma and the picture is astounding, I saw it on display in Costco and Comet and it blew the LCD away.
They also do a 37" model with pedestal stand, wall mount or full cabinet. See here
I think the old rule still applies for now, for anything 32 and under an LCD is okay, but go over 32" and you should really still be looking at a Plasma.
Just my opinion through recent experience and I'm sure some people will disagree.
Cheers
Hanley

Pete,
I have the 42WLT66 and am more than happy with it.
I got it as an insurance replacement for my other set that was unfortunately fried during a storm.
I could have chosen a number of sets but IMO the Toshiba is a good all-round set.
I tend not to sit around and get a hardon over how black my blacks are or how well my speakers handle the frequencies that only my dogs can hear. I was lucky enough to only have to pay an excess to get the set but TBH if I had a budget of the £1600 rrp that the set was then I would probably still gone for it.
Value for money wise I'd say it is a very good set indeed
Paul.

Neither do I, but if I pay that amount of money for a tv then I want a decent picture, it's pretty well documented that the Toshiba 58 and 66 range just aren't up to the standard of the competition.
Suppose it's okay for an insurance con though!!!

Well documented by who though? Those whom sit all day and get a hardon over how black their blacks are and how well their speakers handle the frequencies that only their dogs can hear I'd wager
As for it being a con, I'm afraid not. I wanted them to try and repair my Hitachi RP set however they refused to

I'm confused as hell
I bought a Panasonic TH-37PX60 Plasma Screen with the stand. It was on display with everything including Sony's, Toshiba, LG, and some quality makes such as Bush and the Ying Wah Tv company
It had the best picture in the shop, so i went home, pricerunnered it and bought it for £1071 thats £400 quid less than Currys, Dixon's etc
It's now sat in my Lounge looking very nice

Hi ive got a 32wlt66,after reading different reviews on lcd,s ,it turned out to be the winner at the price band ,From about 6FT away the picture is very good ,different angles from other chairs can get a bit blocky, but nothing major,as the norm i understand,The biggest pain seems to be the remote ,needs to be pointed directly at the tv and awkward to use, freeview text not as good as terresterial text, all in all am very pleased with family+friends saying what a lovely picture it is

Good for you Pete!
You stay there in the past with your blacker than black blacks
You and your set will have a lot in common.......
Both big, old, bulky tubes

I'm not joking ................................................
Whenever I look at the big flat screens and discuss on here and read elsewhere it seems that they are still improving and the CRTs are still best??
I am happy to be persuaded otherwise ... but I like my blacks black

Lets break it down for you:
Any good?
Looks like he's already based his own opinions, wouldn't you say??
I am looking again - with winter looming - at large flat screens ......
Is he?? The above comment would probably suggest not, just like the previous 2 years
Aren't they cheap now??
belittling your large investment, "look at how much money you've lost"
Is there still a way to go with price and quality?
Are you going to loose MORE money on your purchase? Will you have to fork out AGAIN when they get better in a year or so?!?!?
Pete + King RA
Spelling this moron out for the masses.

The 32WLT66 - and it's predecessor the 58 - wins every review/group test going.
42 not so good though according to various reports.

Panasonic TH-37PX60 B-WAL - Product Summary - Sound and Vision Online
Free delivery, free wall-mount, free 5yr warranty, free DVD, best price in the UK. I'd personally pay a tiny bit more and get a 42" though.

i was once given some advice on tv's and stereo equipment by a very good engineer
his words were,
unless you are buying the above fom a specialist maker, its very difficult to beat panasonic
i bought one on his advice and what a tv, the surround sound was allways being commented on by listerners, my relative's toshiba couldn't get near it
