MP3 Player Recommendation
Sick and tired of iPods. When they work the're great but reliability seems a nightmare.
So what non-Apple MP3 players do you recommend that is more robust and straightforward? Say 20 Gb min, decent sound and around say £150. Ideally with battery that can be replaced without pulling the unit apart and can be played through stereo system. Would rather have a new one than take a chance on fleabay. TIA, dl

I've had a Sony NW-HD1 for nearly 2 years now and it's been great. 20gb hard drive, 30 hours playback. Although this model is no longer available, the newer models support more formats. From a purely aesthetic perspective, the brushed silver case is great - much nicer than white plastic
On the downside: I had to use a volume hack to increase the maximum volume when using it at the gym, The NW-HD1 onbly supports Sony's native atrac format although the softward it comes with converts mp3s. Finally, while usable, the method of track navigation used is not the most sensible they could have chosen.
Despite it's drawbacks I've been very happy with this player.

David,
I was thinking the same as you, but I've not taken the plunge yet. How about this...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...514036?ie=UTF8
I liked the radio, but price for price it's no cheaper than an I-Pod
For reference I'd check out AV forums

or Digital Spy

Also the latest version of the Sonic Stage software used to interface with it on a computer has been improved quite alot

I picked up a Creative Zen Sleek Photo 20GB for £110 from Argos. Don't know if they are still selling them or if it was an end of line promotion. Been faultless so far and a nice sturdy aluminium casing. You can just drag and drop files on through USB too.
I ripped all my fave CDs, but at too high a bit rate (192) as I ran out of room at about 3,300 songs
