Default Question on extending sky dish wires...

Not sure if this is a DIY question? anyway...

at present the 2 sky + wires come from the dish down the wall, in the wall, into the box.

i am moving TV to other side of room so want to chase the wires into the wall, run them round to the otherside, and then plug in the box in the new place - new skirting board will hide the wire run....2 q's

how do i extend the wire? just buy new coaxil and join it with some bluetack to the old wire? can i buy a "plug" to screw the old wire end into and then run on?

also...where the wire pops up in the new place can you get a cover plate (like for TV aerials) that i can mount on the wall and plug into instead of the wire just coming in a hole...looks a mess.

and lastly! if i want to stick sky in the room next to that one (kids play room) whats the best way? only need basic free to view stuff - can i get a sky box of ebay and a freeview card? and how do i send it a signal?

Sky cable from dish to digibox should be continuous with no joints for the best poosible picture and yes you can get a plate but once again you'd need to join the cable to do this so not really a good idea.

Loosen the dish mounting bolts, pull the wires to where you want them, bolt the dish up where ever it lands, job's a guddun

As for chasing the wires, one look at you and you'll be chasing em down the road!

After not right much Googling, you need...

Some 'F connectors, such as these and some cable such as this

Screw your existing lead from your dish on to the 'F Barrel' (double male thing). Make your new lead up using the 'F Connectors'. Screw one end to the other end of the barrel. Screw the other end of your new lead to your Sky box. There's a guide to fitting the connectors to the cable here

Ideally you'd do the whole lot in one go to avoid quality loss so I wouldn't bother with the skirting board plate.

As per Bob T .. youll need TWO lots of the 'f' conn packs due to having two cables at rear of the box.. make sure you get DOUBLE-SCREENED co-ax cable either that or collar a local sky fitter and give him a fiver to make you the leads

If you want to do it sooner rather than later (ie. not order over the internet), you can buy extension cables that just screw on from larger B&Q stores and Maplin.

Never show fear or lack of knowledge in Maplins....The techno-geeks will smell it. On their own turf they can be merciless
