Question Fixing an iPod?

Have an iPod in the family and it won't hold its charge. So I guess battery is knackered and needs replacing. How do I sort this out please? Has it got to go back to Apple UK or can I get a battery and fix it etc? Thanks, dl. Well out of Warranry btw.

David,
As above, what model is it? I've got a 4th Generation iPod and the battery is pretty simple to replace. Have a look here for videos of how to replace the batteries in most of the iPod range.

It's my daughter's and she's not here to ask but it's a mini iPod, about 2-3 years old and about 1 G I think. Any help? David

Oh and it's pink so I don't like taking it anywhere

Can just see you with a nice pink iPod

Check the link I posted above, has a vid for changing the mini's battery, and I think it's pretty simple.

You might try charging it and letting it play until it runs the battery down to the point of switching itself off, that helped my iPod battery no end.

Well I buggered that up

Bought a battery and followed fitting instructions to the letter. Put it back together but now HOLD button on top is permanently ON. Switch seems to work fine so I must have disturbed something else.

Any ideas?? Would Apple repair it? Reluctant to buy another iPod as I can't really afford it and my daughter says you can't just transfer songs from one iPod to another or is she wrong about that? Thanks, d

Morning David,
Have a look at this PDF file, might have info about the hold switch.

As for the songs, technically she's correct, you cannot copy music from your iPod to a computer using iTunes, however, you can obtain software that allows you to do this, so all is not lost. One app that is mentioned as being pretty good is Anapod Explorer.

You might also want to pop over to iLounge and visit the forums and search and ask about the hold button issue, as I'm sure they'll know how to fix it

Hi M,

Thanks for that - will have a look.

A guy from Apple just told me that any legitimate iPod will recognise a previously set up iTunes on a PC. But I didn't think this was the case or have a got it **** about whatsits??? David
