Off on a whistle stop trip to NY on Monday, suggestions?
As per title really- I'm there for two days and would like some ideas on what to do to make the most out of it. Staying very near Central Park.
Thanks,
Ns04
PS "Please stay there" is not a suggestion!!

What do you want to know?
Restaurants? Bars? Shops? Tourist stuff? Culture?
Glad to help out-I spend a stupid amount of time in NY (moving there in the not too distant future) but be more specific and I can help you out.
Oh- and plenty of threads on this in the past- a quick search will bring up loads for you

Bars and resturants (friendly to us Brits!!!) and any essential tourist-y things really e.g. Empire State building.
I'm a bit of a theme park nut and I've heard great things about The Cyclone Rollercoaster in Coney Park (??), but is that do-able in the timeframe as I'd be on public transport?

its a great ricketey ride. I was staying in Bay Ridge - Brooklyn and we jumped on the tube/train down there, took about 45 mins IIRC (maybe an hour from where you are staying though) you'll love it. On a stall - Check out the guy shouting " shoot the Freak" paint ball guns aimed some gimp in a suit. There's a big fair ground area down there and a massive beach for miles each way.

Right at the far south of Brooklyn on the atlantic. Get the D/F/N or Q train all the way to Coney Island/Stilwell Ave- will take over an hour to get there from Manhattan.
If you are planning the empire, go either early or late- avoid the lines.
Would gladly show you around, but im not back there for another 2 weeks

Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island & Empire State Building are great things to see, but as before get there very early as the queues can be very long. Get on the red open top buses, great way to see the city. One goes uptown, the other downtown and the other goes to Brooklyn.

Virgils in time square was good massive meat and burger place, or ESPN's restaurant, hire the Lazyboys for an hour and watch TV on the biggest TV's you'll see.

Do you know any good bars, resturants around the central park area? Something indicative of the place would be nice, even if that means junkfood US style!
Love the place!
Where exactly are you staying? Central park is pretty big....

Not my favourtie area personally!
If you want any food etc of an authentic local flavour rather than tourist over priced stuff, then dont eat round there! 14 blocks from Central Park. Close to the empire state.
My favourite local place is cafe orlin (on St Marks between 1st/2nd Ave). This place does my favourite steak anywhere in the world. Not really within walking distance of times sq- but this is more of a new yorker area as opposed to tourist central. A few bars and stuff round there too.

www.subanyc.com - $$$- but by christ it is good food. Flamenco show on sundays in front of your table- BOOK EARLY.
Sala one-nine. On 19th st between 5th/6th ave. Very nice.
TBH, there are too many restaurants I can recommend. Any specific food you want just ask and I will have a think.
