Default Photoshopped image on CNN

This is on their front page today

Where is the smoke?
how did the photographer capture it at that precise moment?
Surely there would be enough backwards force to knock the soldier down in that posture?

Capturing it wouldn't be too hard with a high speed film (or even digital to an extent) and a motor drive.

Er is it just me or does the diameter of the rocket look bigger than the rocket launcher?

A stinger (ground-to-air missile) has two motors (thrust), a small one (almost smokeless) that ejects it from the tube putting it a safe distance from the operator before the 2nd main motor fires.

And to add to that, the ejection rocket vents from the back of the launcher (which is open) so it's totally recoilless. Otherwise they'd be almost impossible to fire. It's why you can't stand behind someone launching one of these, or you get seriously burned.
