Default GPS Software for Laptop - Any advice?...

Can anyone suggest some decent software for my laptop?...

I've just got myself a USB GPS receiver and now I'm after some software to go with it.

Does Autoroute work with a GPS receiver?... Any other software?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cinders.

some IT man you are

yes, autoroute has a GPS function, not tried it with autoroute, but have tried it with pocket streets on a PDA, its not anything like the real thing, but it serves a purpose.

Autoroute or Mappoint work with GPS receiver but make sure that it runs at 4800 Baud NMEA V2.0 or you won't get didly!

You can use Franson Virtual GPS if you're having problems as I did with a Bluetooth GPS device + USB Dongle.

Be advised that all Autoroute will show you is a position on a map, updated every 15 seconds or so. It will not "tell" you where to go unless you do a route on it, then follow that. So it is not as practical as a SatNav.

Saying that, I recently used it to avoid 10kms worth of traffic queues (bouchon) on the Rennes bypass on the way to Britainy a couple of weeks back - but I was passenger and telling my wife where to go, v.hard and probably illegal to do it yourself!

I'm not sure how accurate the autoroute is, i tried it coming back from chester, and according to the map I was driving through field at 88mph 200yds off the M56 motorway

Thanks for the replies, that's great.
It is NMEA V2.0 compatable.

I'm really bought it to use with NetStumbler.

I think I'll get myself a copy of Mappoint.

Thanks Again.
