Talking Endorsements Disappearing !!!

Hi,

I recently sent my driving licence off to the DVLA to have some expired endorsements removed. I had 11 at the time 3 expired, 3 3 years old and 5 18 months old. Filled the form out from the post office sent off my cheque for £19 and my paper licence, got it back 6 weeks later with only 3 points on it they had taken the expired 3 off plus the 5 most recent ones

I have spoken to a friend who works for the CPS and deals with speeding offences in the Shropshire area, he reckons that most likely the court never filled out the paperwork to inform the DVLA 18 months ago when they endorsed my licence, hence the new printout only showing 3 points !!

Anyone else experienced a similar thing ??

And anyway of checking without ringing the DVLA ??

I'm not sure we want you on the roads with that kind of driving history.

Yeah doesn't sound the greatest driving record does it !!

Mind I feel its quite just that the 5 were taken away as when the copper that got me (Who was hiding behind a hedge) On a sunday afternoon on a quiet industrial estate road reckoned I was doing 59mph when I know I was only doing 44mph as my road angel said so. Felt so pi$$ed off at the time that I got 5 points for it when I should have only got 3 !!

They only count for 3 years but stay on the licence for 4 years.

Err yeah, because you have to get 12 in a 3 year period to get banned for totting up

Let me guess, your going to come back now saying you have never broken a speed limit in your life ??

Not in the least Scooby-Mark. In was just wondering how you got away with it with so many on the licence. I always thought it was automatic on the third endorsement in three years. Thing must have changed for the better then!

Best not to make an assumption about me though.

Leslie,

Only an automatic ban if the accumulated points hit or exceed 12 within a three year period regardless of the number of offences.

I was lucky to escape a ban as I pleaded guilty (When I wasn't really) and that they took that into account along with the fact that one set of 3 points became 3 years old within 3 weeks after the offence.

I think that the trouble is ther are no real rules as I hear of so many cases from my mate at the CPS where one driver gets more than another regardless of current driving history, I think it really does matter on what mood you catch the judge in !!

Mark.

Ok Scooby-Mark, thanks for the explanation about all that. I have a fear of getting points on my licence!Your are right about the variance between judges or magistrates.

My understanding is

They count for 3 years
Stay on your license for 4 years
And insurance companies usually take in to accout points over the past 5 years

No problems Les

I too fear getting points, its so easy these days too

I also hate the fact that speeding past a school at 10mph over the limit carry's the same punishment as 10mph over the limit on an out of town bypass. Automatically makes you look a bad driver for having a lot of points when all of mine have come late night / early hours on quiet roads but I wouldn't have got any different punishment for doing the same outside a school at home time or on a busy high street
