where to park in London. Will use tube
Hi
I am thinking of going to London with friends by car for a day. Can anyone recommend where to park a car (its only a cheap car, not too bothered about security). We could park near/in a tube/train station using this to get to the centre. Edgeware road train station has been suggested, leaving the car in the station carpark, have ben told it is free? then train to centre. Any suggestions please

I think it would be helpful if you said which direction you were coming from (although Edgeware gives a clue). London is quite a big place Also is this on a weekend? dl

If I go to london I park under the Hammersmith Flyover (right next to the hammersmith apollo)...there's usually enough parking spots, and it's 30 seconds from hammersmith underground. just take the left immediately after you pass the bollards for the apollo, and you'll see the car park (under bridge) on your right.

What about low-life activity around there? Would the car be safe there all day?

Park in Crouch End (North London), very near A1. 5 minute bus to Finsbury Park tube and another 10 mins to Kings Cross, 15 to Victoria, etc.
Parking free and it's 99% non-residents parking. I live there.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
Fatherpierre, thanks for suggestion for parking in Crouch End Hill N8 8 (using autoroute). looks just right, only just off A1(via M1) with links to the city centre, I presumme it is on road and possible to park there all day. Will try this

My advice would be to park at Stanmore, its 5mins from Junction 4 of the M1. Parking is £3 for the day, and take the tube into the centre, it takes about 30 mins to get to Baker Street. Least hassle solution. Drive any further into London and you'll lose time in the traffic.

Always use Stanmore mate when we go from Nottingham, right off the M1 - its quick and easy, and I've left a scoob there for a weekend before and its been fine - and still only 2 or 3 quid parking.

hmm... whoever told you that Edgeware road station had a car park was having a laugh! unless they meant just leaving it in the traffic outside as you could probably go out all night and come back and it would not have moved.
My suggestion would be go to Watford, and get the train in, massive car park and it takes 15 mins on the overland train into Euston you can also get a travel card from there. DON'T just pick one on the outskirts as the tube map is not to scale and it can take forever to get anywhere useful (read Chesham and Amersham!)

Thats what I always used to do, it takes the edge of travelling into the hell on earth, aka London. Loads of spaces at Stanmore, and a dodle off the M1.

Cockfosters is a good one. Safe area, easy to get a space, £3 during the week and free on weekends IIRC. OK it is a bit further over from the M1 than Stanmore but not too far and it is on Picadilly line which is probably a main one you will be using for visiting places.
