Have you noticed how pikeys and benefit claiming council house dwellers tend to be the ones with these super sized couch potato televisions?
Just add Skyplus and a new build house for extra 'white trash' appeal.
BTW I've looked at these items in the shops and the screen update is still crap, doesn't look right and HD sucks ***. CRT still outperforms in every way other than footprint.

I have the 37" Toshiba its pretty good but you have to adjust the settings to get the best out of it. As with everything the qualityy depends on the input, I find it fine with Sky but haven't tried it with SKY HD yet. DVD playback is excellent (through Xbox 360) and games are awesome!
Doesn't feel too big as well, espescially when wall mounted

Both the Samsung and the Toshiba come set up pretty badly, a bit of tweaking in the menu sorts that out, see AvForums for more info.
Both can be had for around £1100 if you dont mind buying from the net or getting John Lewis to price match a local retailer

I've got the Tosh LCD - 37WTL58 - had it a wee while now and it's a cracking set. Got it from John Lewis, so 5 yr warranty on it.
The avforums site mentioned above was also very helpful when I was deciding what to get and where to get it.

For the Tosh the latest models are the WL66 and the WLT66. The WL is a bit cheaper but doesn't have integrated freeview which the WLT does. Also I think the WLT has a different finish.
If you can fit it in the 42" WLT does 1080p resolution up to 37" *only* does 720p - more info on this at AVforums where they have dedicated threads for each model.....!

If I am honest you probably won't notice the difference between them if set up ok with similar feeds.
I would take a look at both and see which one fits you best. Also have a think about where the screen will be placed and seating as off axis viewing might be important to you. The Tosh picture quality does degrade a bit on a poor feed when viewing from an angle e.g. watching something like Paramount on Sky from a corner position. This wasn't a problem for me as I view straight on.
Just make sure which ever one you go for has 2 HDMI inputs does at least 720p and don't worry about 1080 unless you are going big 42" + and sitting a fair distance away.

Viewing distance plays a major part as well
A 32" CRT viewed from 30ft away with a £10k+ sound system would be laughable, with a £300 sound system viewed from 10ft it may do the job.
A decent HD large screen set will look outstanding when setup correctly with a 720P feed
Cheers

Either way I'll stick with my 14" colour portable left in a box under the stairs for most of the year. Watching TV is even more of a waste of time than exchanging points of view with morons on here.

I've spent over £20k on home cinema gear over ten years but for us it's a social thing as well as personal enjoyment. My wife is disabled and finds cinema's difficult so instead friends and family come to us. It's also alot easier to have a popcorn/beer/tiolett break when you can press pause.
The picture and sound quality you can buy at home for under £10k can certainly rival most multiplex cinemas.
If you only live in a new build semi or flat you may struggle a bit with the neighbours though.
Cheers
Lee
