What's the normal hourly rate you would pay someone to look after an 18 month child for an evening?

£5ph + cab fare?

Rough rate for babysitters is about £5 per hour, unless they are qualified in childcare then they tend to charge a little more.

i bet that statistically you'd have more chance of something nasty happening from one of the family than a sitter

I pay £6 ph up to midnight then its £7 ph she is the deputy manageress at our little girls Nursery so she knows her very well.

Cost should'nt be an issue it should more about trust.

Thanks, sounds like £7ph will be the agreed amount (London, Sat night etc)

Sadly she won't have any opportunity to earn any extra as there is probably no way my wife would let me drive her home

Where I live you would be in the minority, most of the families have nannies. And just how many headlines do you ever see about babysitters being accused of doing something? None, it's always an uncle or someone closely related.
