Default New Labour......tough on crime?

"Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" Tony Blair, 1997, and 2000

"We must give the victims THEIR rights back, and stop giving all the rights to the criminals." Tony Blair, last WEEK

This week, this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1766

So how does "the best leader this country has ever had" square THAT with the general public???

"Lord Goldsmith said a trial of the system in Lancashire had produced 'very good' results. He pointed to the example of a youth who had been made to buy a box of chocolates for a terrified woman whose window he had kicked in. He went round with the chocolates and a handwritten note of apology.

It's a start, though I'm sure she'd have liked a chance to tazer him a few times too as part of the 'apology'.

I'd prefer to tazer Tony Blair, and not only a few times, either

I would have no idea on this earth how to get hold of a policeman if I need one.Think I have to ring Bangalore or something first.999 doesn't seem to be the way to do it.

If I do get one can't imagine I would see them urgently.Unless I was the burglar being threatened by the householder of course

I don't know of even one newspaper that supports the current state of affairs.Even the fool himself admits he has done nothing for 9 years

http://www.crimestatistics.org.uk/fi...l_crime_05.gif

You will notice that Crime rose quite markedly under the Tories ..... in 1997 Labour finally got a grip of it an down it has come, we are back down below 1981 levels!!!!!!

So, tough on Crime??? I SHOULD SAY SO!!!!!

And you actually believe that, Pete?

Have a closer look at that website and then consider that crime was on a downward trend until 1997 and that (with the exception of 2004/05) it rose every year since Labour came to power.

Also have a look at some other graphs on the same website.

Criminal damage

Drug offences

Sexual offences

Viloence against the person

Violent crime

Something smells a bit fishy when all these graphs show a strong upward trend and the overall crime graph points down.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/d...re/5120080.stm

A churchgoer all her life, refuses to pay her council tax due to the dismal attemptd to cear up the anti social behaviour in her area not to mention the 1000+ needle being picked up of the streets every week .

Rape, mureder violent stabbibgs its all good under new labour but if you are a pensioner refusing to pay your council tax god help you.

Angry

Hence the brilliant idea of on the spot fines for everything, more and more motoring fines, and now it'll be £500 gets you a conditional discharge instead of a proper sentence.

We should start calling them by their proper name: not fines, but TAXES!

This lot are desperate for money...........

Well I never, what did she expect?... a cuppa tea and a cream cake It's ironic that people still protest by attempting non-payment..... the law IS the law and if she doesn't pay up she deserves to be locked up.....

But regardless Tony Blair & Labour WILL march onwards and upwards to keep the GREAT in BRITAIN.........

Yes Pete, Im sorry I dont think Labour are handling crime at all well, hell they even let paedo's out on the street accidentally. There are growing gang wars and immigration has just fuelled the fire. In their defence though the tories would be just as toothless and I dont believe things would be any different. Its political correctness this, human rights that so no-one has the ***** to provide any strong enough deterrent.

I always thought Maggie was a complete witch but I watched a programme on the Iranian Embassy and one of the SAS guys had said her brief was 'dont leave any loose ends' which basically means kill the *****'s, and for that she has my admiration can you imagine anyone having the ***** to issue directives like that now? Of course not and if they did there would be a public enquiry that would drag on for years at the taxpayers expense.

PSL/DCI,

Do you think it is a good plan to charge a criminal who has been caught offending pay £500 to escape a court appearance and to release him with no charge?

I'm sorry Les but I can't comment on that proposal as I do not know all the facts surrounding it..

I would say that we should all leave politics behind though and concentrate on supporting WHATEVER government is in power to help reduce crime, at the end of the day it's down to us all.............

What should the rest of us do DCI, the victims I mean?

If I defend myself someone like Felix will arrest me, take fingerprints and DNA, and shove me in a cell for hours.

If you find a prowler in your house, ring the police and tell them you are an 80 year old pensioner and the council can get bent if they think you are paying council tax this year. That should guarantee a few squad cars

Did you actually read your own links? If you did, then you'd have noticed that the rises are due almost entirely to changes in the way crimes are reported. For instance:

1) Now ANY contact between two people can be reported as a "violent crime". If I prod you lightly on the chest during an argument, that will be recorded as a violent crime.

2) Until recently, if four kids went into a store and all nicked sweets then legged it, that would be one crime. But now it is four.

And so on. It is interesting to note that when (a couple of years ago) official figures showed crime falling, but the Crime Survey showed them rising, then everyone attacked the government using the Crime Survey, claiming that the official figures were fixed. Now the Crime Survey shows falling figures, whilst the official figures show rises due to changes in recording - now suddenly everyone believes the official figures. Someone more cynical that me might suspect that people were simple picking whatever figures backed up their personal predjudice.

Nah, ring and tell 'em an 80 year old pensioner, who refuses to pay her council tax, is speeding. The entire fekkin force would be there

As I've said before: government enforcers, bully boys and auxilliary tax collectors
