Money transfer query
Hi all!
Does anyone know whether it's possible to transfer (free preferably!) from an Italian bank account to an English bank account.
Either Euros or Pounds Sterling, it matters not!
It's a regular transaction......
Any help welcome!
TIA

Hello
Yes it is, although Italian banks are a bit of a nightmare. Unfortunately, not only is it not free but you get a bad exchange rate most of the time.
Just go to the bank and ask for a transfer form and it will have all the charged laid out.

That's what banks do!!
Best to ask the account holder first though...
Nothing in life is free and you'll probably have to pay for Euro/Pounds conversion as well. If it is the same bank you could possibly arrange it from the UK end but in any event ask UK bank for all the fancy bank ID numbers that might be needed. If it's large amounts then watch out for money laundering regulations.
Your starting point would be to phone or visit the UK bank (assume you are in UK?). dl

With most European banks, you can use the 'Euro*' bank transfer scheme. Its a lot cheaper than a traditional telegraphic transfer (about £5 as opposed to £20+ if I recall).

*I cant remember the correct name, sorry.

Thanks Steve, David and Simon.
It's actually Mrs CC's former husband that sends her money......unfortunately he sends her cash and recently some has gone missing.
Best bet is, as you all say, to get Mrs CC to ask her bank for details. She did so a couple of years ago and the charges were about £30 which ripped a sizeable hole out of the monies sent!
Thanks again......will post up the bank's answer!

Have rung bank (Natwest) and they say that there would be no charge at their end for receiving money unless they had to convert from Euros to Pounds Sterling, in which case there would be a small charge.
Apparently banking in general no longer charges the recipient across Europe but it's possible that the Italian bank may charge Mrs CC's ex husband for the privilege........he needs to ask his bank the question!
