Angry Lambeth Council - daylight robbery

Nipped into a mates in Brixton to watch the game, just in time for kick off... virtually all the roads are permit only mon - fri, 9-5... but for some reason this road included Saturday. Came out straight after the match (hardly the most inspirational game) to find the car clamped. Cost me £115 to have it released! Is it just me or does anyone else think that's a tad excessive?! What's worse though, is that these low lifes were prowling the streets rather than watching the game.

I'm thinking of appealing... I don't think over a hundred pounds for leaving your car down a residential street is reasonable. I could of bought a ticket, like I would of done in the week, for £2 per hour. The car was left there for just under two hours... cost me around a pound a minute.

If it's signed then you've 0 chance of getting off.

You said yourself that Saurdays are included, so you're without a chance.

Move to north London - much nicer and with less parking restrictions!!

Probably, but the councils take a very dim view of that and have the power to prosecute you quite heavily.

I don't know where you live but I have to deal with Camden and Westminster councils who are the worst.

Speaking in living terms, but was tongue in cheek. It's all a **** hole - no matter how much money you have, you have crack/smack heads prowling the streets.

All the borough councils just want you to park so they can rinse you.

That's the price you pay for living in our wonderful capital city.

Wouldn't live there if you paid me.

Hence why I have recently moved out!

My 2 bed garden flat has bought me a nice house three times the size with a massive garden and drive to park 4 cars.

Cheaper too

Our house is probably worth a one-bed studio flat with no parking. No way, there's more to life.

It would also buy you a 75% hike in car insurance!

My Merc went from £650 per year to £195! And I lived in an area classed as desirable.....

Well I'm worrying because we're moving next week to a house which is in the same area, but on more of a main road. I'm wondering what the insurance hike is going to be.

Good luck.

If it's in the same town then it probably won't make much difference.

Just do an online quote under an assumed name but with the same driver details with your current insurer to see what differences happen.

Yes and let's not forget the obligatory parking permits you have to buy - that's just short of an extra hundred pounds a year just for the priviledge of being able to park on the street outside my flat.

My insurance went up by £200 also...

The money you pay for your parking permit help pay the wages of the lovely attendents and clamping people who screw you over too.

Bent over and shafted like a good 'un LOL
