can anyone help with this little choice ??

i have looked at a few forums and would seem they both have 1 or 2 small problems

like probs that once bought, apple won't fix under warrenty (not sure what probs though )

sony has quite a few people pulling there hair out over the transfer software

No doubt the anti-iPod brigade will turn up in a moment or two

My vote would be with the iPod. Am curious as to know what problems Apple would not fix under warranty. Usually they will replace the unit, rather than repair it, so that should in effect cure any issues you had.

I've used a Sony player before and the transfer software is a tad annoying, seems to want to encode everything into ATRAC (or something like that), which means adding songs takes ages. The unit was only 512MB, but I liked the display and functions of it, just not the crappy software.

Iriver, have an Ipod as well, prefer the Iriver and the Sony ones I have dealt with in my capacity of bloke on the road who knows about stuff like this and would love to spend several hours fannying about with it because I cant be arsed reading the manual, were crap.

I have a creation MP3 Player, and have just got a 2GB Ipod, and I have to say the Ipod is fantastic, softwware is brilliant for transferring music, very impressed with the whole package.

Have to say I don't see the point of the new video models though.

Sony have changed the Connect software and it handles mp3 now.

Can't say I have had any problems with either the software or the players.
Both me and daughter have the nwa3000 20gb players.

Never had problems with the sound quality from either of my iPods. If you're an audiophile then yes, I could see that it would not be the best, but I think any lack of quality is probably due to the earphones supplied with it.

There is also the quality of the encoding of the files, if it's low quality then it'll sound useless no matter what you play it on.

and the quality is also affected by the bit rate of the encoding. Just zap it a higher quality and you'll notice the difference.

Mum bought the 1000A version. I set all the software up for her on the comp. Have to say ITunes and iPod wins hands down on ease of use.

If you're quick you might be able to pick up a purple sony 20GB from Tesco for £99 as they are selling them off.

Missus has never had any problems with the Sony software, and has not had it accidently wipe out her whole music collection either (unlike some other software out there )

Battery life is better on the Sony too.

Personally, I'd go for neither of them and get something completely different

I love my iPod, it's so easy to use with iTunes The supplied headphones are a bit pants though so I bought some Shure E2Cs which are excellent. The bass is fantastic, I have it quite loud when I'm in the gym to drown out the crap sound from the TVs and it makes my brain feel like it's vibrating

I'll probably be deaf soon

Hey, we're not all like that! I tried the iPod and didn't like it. I try to give the positives of alternatives rather than just slag off the pod.

that's funny coz i just listened to my n70 \ headphones and to say it is poor is being generous but u dont have a choice with the n70 i spent half hour in ipod store cheque'in them out for my self and apart form the standard headphones being rubbish the ipod i thought was great the menu system was fast responsive and clear

i would buy better headphones which ever one i bought ... window to your i mp3 world and all that

dont think i will buy the bose noise cancelling head phones a bit to pricey at £279 ouch

think a ton is more than enough to spend on cans
