Anyone had a Little Chef recently?

Anyone had a Little Chef recently?
After a long drive I pulled in to one of these eateries at Lamberhurst this evening for a quick snack. 20 mins to be served - with only one other family in there - and then 25 minutes to deliver a tuna melt and a cuppa. The salad was some scraping from the bottom of the fridge, really old and disgusting.
I notice that most of these places are closing, any wonder?
Shame, the old Happy Eater's were pretty good.

Ah, the Lamberhurst LC. A horrible place. It was poor when I ate there six years ago. Seems they got rid of the Burger King that was there, which is a pity, as it was handy when coming back from a day at camber and you needed your fast food fix, though it too took an age to get service.
I agree with the Happy Eater comment, and fondly recall going to the same place when it was a Happy Eater as a kid. I think I've got a picture of me on the big red elephant/Mammoth in the play area somewhere

Happy Eaters, now that takes me back (Who on earth would think of having Ice cream in your glass of coke ).
Mind, back then, the Little Chefs were also pretty good round here. Now everything is £4 minimum and I've eaten better tasting mouldy cats in China than what they served in some of them now.

Stopped at a Little thief just south of Elvington a week or so ago on our way up to Scoobyshoot out.
Breakfast was overpriced tastless, grisly, dry, warmed up rather than freshly cooked.
Even the mug of coffee was rank!
Glad I didn't have to pay for it !!!!

Ive been to a few recently whilst away at shooting comps. You can always get a BOGOF voucher of their website.
They differ greatly between locations - some are utter sh1te but others have been not bad at all. Still not on a par with your average greasy spoon tho.
Simon.

I know little chefs used to be pants at service, but I thought they had improved. The couple that I've been to over the last year or so have been pretty good...2 in wales and one in essschex!

Any place that has pre-made omellettes, and reheats them to order, has got to be avoided. Shocking places imho. And they have the nerve to bleat about a "free" topup for your coffee?! Do me a favour, the States has been doing that for decades, and without the one refill limit. Overpriced muck the lot of it.
I tend to use truck stops instead, proper greasy spoon, reasonable prices and no pretence that its a "restaurant"... Cannock truckstop is a perfect example.

The Sizzling Sausage (one in Northampton and the other on the A5 north of Potterspury) are both outstanding as is Jack's Hill Caf just north of Towcester.
Cheers

PS - The Oasis on the Wellinborough Road in N'pton is also v. good. Try 'The Full Monty' for £6.99 (includes a bottomless mug of tea or coffee). Matching cutlery extra.

It beggars belief that there's no decent places to eat on long journeys. I spent years 'on the road' and you either have to pack your own lunch (works only for day 1) or give up any idea of eating reasonably priced, decent food.
Petrol stations only stock over priced soggy sarnies and wrinkled out of date fruit. Service stations may have a salad bar but you need a second mortgage to eat there (fair enough if your on expenses, but not if you're out with the family), Little Chefs were OK about 14 years ago but are generally cr@p now and other than that all you have are greasy burger bars!
The only saving grace is the recent appearance of M&S at some service stations. The only other places to dish up decent grub are pubs - but you have to know which ones to go to.
Glad I'm office based now!

Although one thing that always used to amuse me was a sign on the A303 - out in Wiltshire some place - but London bound. About 1/2 mile before a Little Chef around a blind bend there was a big red sign in the hedge that said "Warning! Little Chef" never failed to raise a giggle - I had images of angry knife weilding midgets in tall white hats and aprons!
(I know, I'm easily amused!)
