Unplug it for about 30 seconds (from the mains, not the ariel plug) and then plug it back in again and wait about 2 minutes switch it back on and hey presto, Bobs your mothers brother.

hijack alert....................
i have sky with a lead from the box to the bedroom.
after changing the box (knackered) i connected it the same as previously fitted and downstairs is fine.
the problem is in the bedroom i have channels 1-5 but sky is very grainy.
if i disconnect the "normal" ariel lead from the skybox, hey presto... but channels 1-5 are non existent.
could it be the new sky box doesnt like the "normal" ariel lead? any ideas.?
thanks in advance

This recently happened to me, phone sky up and they can talk you through resetting the box using the remote control.
This worked for me when turning it on / off at the mains didnt.
I cant remember what the sequence of buttons was, but they take you to options that you cant see on the services screen.

Going from memory (as I haven't done one for ages and I left Sky technical services 5 yrs ago)
Press services on the RC
then press 4 system set up
then type 01 and press select (this takes you to the hidden settings)
Select new instalation and select on all the following screens ( take note of the signal strength and quality)
The end result should be, channel line up complete or no signal.

How close is the scaffold to your dish? is it not possible they could have knocked it with a scaffold pole. If you do ring up sky and call out an engineer ,if they try to make you pay tell them you cannot be arsed with it and want to cancel, they will send out an engineer for nowt guaranteed
ps have you tried tightening the ds coax going into the back of your box?

yep, if you think about it the satellite is 36000km up in space so a slight knock down here makes for one hell of a mis alignment. Also another problem i came across was trees/large shrubs coming into bloom around this time of year and blocking the signal. so if you have any trees in your line of sight ,may be that

if the scaffolding is 'blocking' the line of sight for the dish to pick up signal, it wont matter how good (or bad) the engineer is, it simply wont do any good.
it might be a case that its been knocked by a 'stray' pole .. but unlikely if its at a distance away..

Bob'r'....it might be worth 're-making ' the connection (s) that go from your sky box to upstairs.. as daft as it is, theres no end of service calls for this problem that are cured by simply doing that!
