Thumbs up Rip off Britain and Hosepipe bans...but I'm alright, Jack

As I sit at my desk with another few mins or so before I finish, gazing out the window. Mesmerised by the torrent of water gushing out of the pavement opposite our offices. Not that this water feature is a new one, it's been there for the past few weeks, but now we have the addition of a fountain now the water has broken through the tarmac. Quite soothing really. Pity I cant see the constant stream of another water leak that is at the junction at the end of the road where I live. Although I'm sure that it won't be so soothing when the workmen eventually come round to dig up the road - probably on my day off whilst I'm still bed recovering from a late night booze up.

Anyhoo. Being a lazy git with watering plants, and having far too many flower tubs and baskets littered everywhere all needing frequent TLC. I thought a irrigation system is called for.

This would negate the need for a hosepipe, and be quite covert so no busybody will dob me in if the Midlands ever gets the hosepipe ban that they keep threatening (oh, you poor Southerners ). Not that letting large water leaks go unattended for weeks on end won't cause this water shortage, oh no, of course not

So how much is this irrigation goin to cost? Well If your silly enough to go to a garden centre in this country. You'll notice that the likes of Gardena and hoselock would gladly charge £20 for 15m of hose, and £3.99 for a pack of 5 fittings and £4.99 for a pack of 5 drippers.

So to do my garden, It roughly equated to about £150 ...that's plus £60 for a timer valve....**** that!!

So off to Spain I go. Where the local equivelent to the "co-op" did the whole lot for 23 Euros. And also another 28 euros for a timer valve.

Plane tickets? About £45 each way (booked on-line with Monarch). So I've manged to fly to Spain and back, and buy all the irrigation I need for less than what it would cost to drive the 5miles to my local garden centre and buy it from there

I bet your asking why on earth am I bothering to type all this innane rubbish?

Well, that little lot has killed enough time so I can now clock off...another hard days graft undermining the country's economy - screw you Bliar...see you later!

Why do leaking pipes cause water shortages??

Never understood that 'cos the water merely seeps back into the ground and finds its way back into the natural water course. OK a little may find its way to the surface and evaporate but most leaks are simply not seen. dl

Well, if you want untreated groundwater coming out of your tap, they don't

Most of us like to see the bottom of the bath when we have one

Because not all your water comes from aquifers, much of it comes from reservoirs which rely on rainwater to fill them, in areas where water does not come from aquifers, any water that leaks is lost to the system.
