Default Need Villa in Spain urgent as 'friend' reneged on favour.

Cant believe it - long standing family friend of the missus was lending us her apartment in Santa Paola nr Alicante for £100. Meant to get keys last weekend at family get together but she didnt turn up. Now she's only now gone and decided that as I cant make it the 200 miles down to see her and pickup keys in person/be told how to turn f'in bottled gas on/off that she says we should 'save the holiday till next time'. Err the flights & car are booked you tw*at!!!

ANYWAY - need somewhere within 100 of Alicante to stay for me, missus & 2 little kids. Anyone an quick ideas as the missus trawls the net? We go early next month.

Thx

Default Burn baby burn

My advice is to burn down their villa by way of thanks whilst you're in the area.

Not really

Thx chaps. Don’t go there on the key Jay – apparently you can only be told in person how to turn a bottled gas valve off Even said we’d pop in on way to the airport but that wasn’t good enough either

Anyway enough whinging I got to find a roof to put over my poor kids’ head !!!

Spanish gas All You need to know:

Regulators:

Remove orange tamper proof seal from cylinder (if any)
Press regulator on cylinder, and push black locking collar down firmly so it locks onto the cylinder.
Turn ****** (this is for non-regulated valves...see note later), or flip the lever over, a momentary hiss confirms all is well (a continual hiss should be investigated).

** Note: For fixed installation that have non-regulated valves, the gas appliance will also have a safety shut off valve situated near it. This is the gas equivelent to an RCD. If gas supply fails or is interrupted it'll shut off, so it'll need to reset. To reset, simply turn off the valve, and SLOWELY turn it back on. (off position is with the valve pointing 90 degrees to the pipe).

Multiple cylinder installations:
Connect and Turn on all cylinders. Make sure changeover valave (if any) is switched to the bank of cylinders you wish to use.

Water heater lighting:

When gas supply has been turned on and safety valve has been reset (if any). Do the following.

Light pilot light on heater (if any). Press the gas valve override button (normally marked by a flame) and press the spark button (normally indicated by a bolt of lightening) Keep the override button pressed for a minimum of 30seconds to heat the theromocouple so the pilot will stay lit.

For electronically controlled water heaters. Press reset or turn it off and back on.

Checking gas levels: Pick up relevent gas cylinder and shake it: If heavy with stuff sloshing about - Loads left. Light but stuff still sloshing about- OK but on it's way out. Light and no sloshing - empty.

Any problems - don't call a Guy called "Gary" he's ex-Corgi don't you know, can also do a/c yet he's never touched one (yet) and he'll procede to f**k up everything you have that runs off gas (bitter? moi? )

See...it's easy! LOL

PS don't forget to check for leaks...light a match, if you get flames or explosions, you have a leak.

Mate, I live about an hour from Malaga which I know is a fair way from Alicante (but not that far) so if you can change your flights to Malaga airport instead I'd have no problem giving you loads of details of locals around here who let out their villas. We're close to water parks, the Sierra Nevada National Park (about 100 yards actually), shops and the coast. Nearly all villas have pools and it's a nice safe area for kids.

Let me know if interested and I'll send some contact details over. Only things is that they won't be in the £100 price bracket this time of year....
