Single Parent Holidays
Het all,
I want to take my son of 6 away on holiday in August for a week.
I looking for ideas on destinations and resorts / experiences of the the above topic.
I've got my eye on the following destinations but want to avoid the 18-30 crowds. Also could temperatures be too high?
Turkey - Ovacik or Hisaronu
Egypt - Sharm el Sheik
Gran Canaria
Balerics
I'm not worried about interacting with other families or people its just I've seen single parents travelling with their parents or other family members but I'm not in that position and wouldn't really want to be.

Come on... Wakey Wakey!
This is quite important. I'm assuming some of you on here are in the same boat. Even if its not single parent related and just taking kids abroad in general I would like to hear from you.
Kind regards
Eshan

As flightman says.
In my experience young kids get bored very quickly, a whole week of beach will see them climbing the walls, therefore you want a destination that provides many alterntives.
PortAventura is near Salou (very 18-30) but Cambrils is also quite close and a lot nicer. There are some great campsites down near there (some with challets for hire) , good pools slides etc + near to beach. There are water parks, theme parks etc, in other words loads of stuff to keep junior happy.
The other alternative is to go for something like Haven Europe (La Chammettes) which has evening entertainment for young kids (disco, games etc) and being based on the French Atlantic coast, has great beaches.

Put the kid in kennels and go somewhere nice on your own. At 6 the kid isn't going to be bothered about the sun, sea and setting, they'll be more interested in a pile of videos and playstation games, more's the pity.

We've been on a couple of Mark Warner holidays. They have kids' clubs during the day so they get to go off and play with other kids while you waterski / read a book on the beach etc. Worked out very well.

In August, you may find temps a bit high for a 6 year old in Egypt and Greece. The Canary Islands are always a good bet as the being in the Atlantic they are kept to a sensible temp.
Don't know what they're like for keeping kids entertained though.

Portaventura is a great idea. I'm not a beach bum but want the convenience of a beach close by. A good resort will have a good itinery of events & games for kids. Also want an all inclusive package.
Agreed with the Egypt / Greece too hot comment.
Thanks
