Default Safari - Tanzania/Kenya

Myself and Mrs SB have both got 'significant' birthdays this year (they've got a zero in them, anyway!). we're trying to work out a good 2 or 3 week holiday to go on, and one of the options was on a luxury-style safari (not for the full time but at least a week which we could then combine with something else). Probably looking at spending 3(ish) grand each (but not worrying too much about cost).

So have any of you guys/gals been on something similar to Kenya/Tanzania?
When is the best time of year to go?
Any recommendations for specific companies/locations?

TIA
SB

I've been to Kenya and went on a couple of safaris but whilst I would class myself as an animal lover, there are only so many elephants/lions/giraffes etc you can see before you get bored. My recommendation would be to go for a three to four day Safari somewhere like Tsavo East, we stayed at an old sisal plantation hotel built on stilts...

Stay by Mombassa on the beach for the rest of the time and get some diving or sailing in.

Went to Kenya. 4 days is enough for Safari, unless you are into animals in a big way! I stayed at the Mpata lodge and it was fantastic! Outside jacuzzi with our 'huts'. French chef made luverly food. This was 10 years ago though...

Maybe you should think about a Tanzania combo with Zanzibar?
