MTB riders, where to ride reasonably near Yorkshire?
Hi
Having got back into MTB riding I'm looking for new places to ride
I've seen this, www.gmbc.co.uk and I think I might give it a go. I'd like to get some practise in first as I haven't done 30 miles in one hit for some time! Grizedale is a tad far to go often from here, I'd like to go to Sherwood pines but again it's a bit far at just over 2hrs in the car.
I'm from near Skipton in North Yorks so can anyone offer any good routes, ideally these new trail thingies! I'm sure there must be summat not too far away!
Also, has anyone ridden in Grizedale, in particular the 'The North Face Trail'? What's it like? I've been to Grizedale for a few rallies so I should imagine it's quite good but the climbs could be interesting!
Cheers!

Hi Bob,
Have a look at what Singletraction are up for building routes and stuff.
There's a good selection of routes in the Dales here.
Some of the folks I ride with did The North Face a couple of weeks back and said it was good, if a little short. Some of the wooden sections can be a bit dicey in the wet or so I'm told. Plenty of options for extending it through the forest or on bridleways though.

Ay up Bob
Have you thought about riding round the reservoirs up near The Sun Inn at Norwood ? Off the top of my head there's Swinsty, Thuscross and Fewston - really good rides out I've done them myself before

I used to do some trial bike riding up on the moors between Sutton and Cowling, could be a touch hard work on a push bike though.

I did the Grizedale challenge last year.
it was F'ing hard!!!!!!!!
Hardest course I've ever done. It just didn't let up. Steep hill after steep hill. even the downhill was tiring!!
did it in 3hr 38 mins.
going for sub 3 hours this year.
I came 112 out of 400.
the winners did it in 2.5 hours AMAZING!!!!

floatin, would you recomend it, was it fun? I'm prepared to put the work in if it's worth it. Maybe I should go for a ride there before I enter?
