Anybody wear prescription Reactolite or Transitions specs ?
Have kind of given up on wearing contact lenses every day and am now squinting when driving which I dont suppose is very safe so was wondering what the opion is on the colour changy ones, i.e. are they and good, how quick do they change and do you look a gibbon ?

Hmm, I had a boss that had them and he was a dick so I always associate them with him, but a lady at work has them and they go like normal glasses when inside so look ok, I may be because she doesnt have a stupid little Tache like he did !
Or do you mean just glasses in general, you have to remember that now I am 35 I am allowed to do things for comfort and convenience rather than to look good. I will be ordering shoes from the back of the Mail on Sunday next.

AFAIK Reactolites darken really quicky, but take longer to lighten up again. Makes them less than good when you are driving into a tunnel, undergroud carpark or stepping into a seedy strip bar on a sunny day.
I've been using daily contact lenses on and off for the last 10 years and find these are almost hassle-free compared to other frequency lenses. Why are you giving up on your contacts?

I have them and they are very good for inside then outside work which my job involves only downside is that they dont work in the car so you will need clip-ons or flip downs

Cant be arsed with contacts after getting on for 20 years, get hayfever in summer so struggle with them then, also its like 30 quid a month for dailys, not that bothered but it all adds up. also faffing about in the morning is an extra step I can do without.

I have a pair of transitions at the moment but will not be buying them again.
Walk from bright sunlight into a dim shop or house and you can't see a thing for 30 seconds and look like an idiot to go with it.
They don't work in the car so you still need a pair of prescription sunglasses as well.
Not worth the money or the effort IMO.
Cheers

I did the same as you about 5 years ago - sick of Contacts, and started to use my glasses with reactalites. I've had no hassles with them, except:
They will, you just have to be closer to the windscreen - like lying on the dashboard in direct sunlight! For all practical purposes, they don't darken much in a car with a roof - not enough to save your eyes.
wont work through glass I was told

I have transitions but have a pair for driving as well - because as mentioned above, they don't darken in the car.
They do change damn' quickly tho', and I have never have any complaints about them. (except as mentioned above with the car.... )

I've been wearing photochromics for years, it's amazing how you get used to never having to worry about sunglasses. When I started wearing contacts for sports I couldn't believe just how bright the outside world was!
They do seem to lose their sensitivity after a while, though - my current glasses now just have a permanent slight tint which doesn't change in daylight, so I could really use some new ones. There doesn't seem much of a correlation between price, speed of transition and lifetime in my experience.
