I have a beat up old escort TD diesel i use for work,It will do very close to 250 miles to £20(driven nicely) and is not all that slow either...(driven like a nutter), much more than twice my 03STI PPP,So i let the wife drive the STI while i'm at work(She looks much better driving it! LOL),and i drive it when I'm off........
So what is my point?

Having hacked the STi in for a VW I have gone from 120 miles on a tank to 600! It makes a big difference. The VW is a nice car in a very many ways and i'm still running it in but with only 140bhp and weighing as much as a small neutron star overtaking can be a bit alarming unless you actually have a runway and someone in a Smart car to overtake :-)

Hey, don't abuse him, he might own the only car that I'll ever have a chance to overtake.

You think that's bad. In my Legacy the other day I spent over a fiver getting from one side of Milton Keynes to the other.

Need to be a little more gentle I hear some of you say, but work do not pay me for travelling time but they do pay me for fuel

I get 540 miles out of £55 in my Transit Connect but trust me I'd rather take the Scoob!

ive had to buy a 2nd car to help with the work miles as my scoob was drinking £40 easy a week,my vw golf gti is much better and a tank will last me nearly 2 weeks, and thats not driving it slow either!scoob is more for weekend blasts now but as petrol has soared again and theres only 2 garages that are on 97.4p p/l the rest have topped £1+ now its getting harder to do that now!

Thinking of upgrading the g/fs old KA to something else in a few months when she finishes her probationary period (passed test 4 weeks ago). Love the economy of these. Any issues associated with these cars? She's not keen on them as they look a bit small and might be a bit dangerous if run into.

i get 18mpg from my 2.3 V6 Cortina but i drive every mile with a great big grin on my face... if i was bothered about economy i'd buy something modern and fuel injected but i'm sure it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun...

They have a safety cell like on F1 cars... very safe
remember the 5th Gear 70mph test?
SMART CRASH TEST
they also tested a corsa at the same time and it came off just as bad. you see all the plastic on a SMART is designed to 'explode' off the car but the SEATING area is protected with the 'TRIDION' (Safety Cell).
also at 70mph they said you wouldn't survive the crash internally on your body!
