do I need both part of my licence...?

I would take the paper one because the card does not show if you have any points

I normally take the paper bit too, but I've never been asked for it.

Be careful though when you do get in the car...those crazy fools drive on the wrong side!

Every car I've hired the bloody steering wheel's been on the wrong side as well!! No wonder they have a Lemon law.

Where are you hiring from? Usrentacar are very cheap and you can choose from all the big renters - I like Alamo, because you get to choose your own car within the rental class. I hired a 4.6 litre Cadillac DTS for two weeks, £350 all in, which was perfect for US roads

Couldn't get the Corvette V6 I wanted so getting a more practical Merc ML.
Using a firm with a branch in the hotel we're staying so very convenient.

I found this site useful though, it has all independent companies.
