Thumbs down Heard this on the news and had one thought

Bet at least one of them was a Staffie
Surprise, Surprise.
Now I am a huge dog lover but these dogs are so easy to associate with these types of incidents.

Three of the victim's fingers on his left hand were severed and one little finger later had to be amputated.

His left arm was almost severed at the elbow and there were several cleaver wounds to the backs of his legs leaving him with severe tendon damage to his legs and elbow.

Sounds like a scene from 'Hostel'...

My what a lovely country we live in......

It's just sick. Think about it ...
1) They have these dogs purely to intimidate (not the dogs fault)
2) They willingly walk the streets without the dogs on leads where the dogs could do anything. You hear lots of stories of the dogs chomping on little kids
3) They carry a bl00dy meat cleaver around. Like what do they need that for?
4) They actively encourage the dogs to corner the poor guy
5) They set upon him with a meat cleaver

It beggars belief on why they thought any of the above was the right thing to do. How effing screwed up can these two ******** be to get thei kicks out of this.

it just seems so odd, i wonder if it was as "random" as it suggests?

these two blokes have attempted to kill a man....now no matter how scummy they are to commit a murder in daylight is a significant event in anyones life - for these blokes it could well be what causes them to go behind bars for many years - it seems hard to belive this came out of nothing?

wonder when we will hear that the attacked man was a rival drug dealer?

Why do you assume at least one of the dogs was a Staffie ????????

I own a Staffie, and they are one of the most well mannered, well tempered dogs you could ever hope to own. They have a bad, and unjustified reputation as aggressive dogs. Bollox !!

Any Staffie owners on here will tell you the same.

If you read up on Staffie's that are written by professional dog breeder's, they all say the same. Staffie's are virtually never the aggressor. Kick one mind, or attack it's owner, then watch them go for it. Other than that, they are soft as Sh1te.

The victim had been walking in Jeddo Road at about 2030 BST when the animals, a Great Dane and a Staffordshire Terrier, started biting his ankles.

There does seem to be a common denominator when it comes to dog attacks though doesnt there.

Also, the majority of ppl that you see walking this type is mutt are usually of lower intellingence than the rest of the population.

I assume one will be a staffie as the type of people who commit such crimes want the 'hard' dog of the moment. It used to be the Rottie but now it's the Staffie. You don't have to tell me about Staffies, I attend 100's of shows and classes each year and see how the staffies behave there......the most unpredictably behaved dogs around the ring bar none and those are the ones that are being shown and bred as the breed standard It's a crying shame that the dogs get the rep they do but reputations are formed mostly from fact.

Yeh, your probably right there. Must admit, it all comes down to how you train your dog. I vertually never have my Staffie on the lead. I don't need to, he does whatever I say, when I say it. Many times, people have walked their dogs when I've been out with mine. My Staffie never goes to greet their dogs, unless I say he can. "Wait" MEANS wait. Not to obay, results in a Wallop. He learnt that very early on.

Dogs, need to be trained properly

I never understand why staffies get a special collar with brass all over it.Like a mini cart horse.

Maybe they like to dress 'hard'

I am sickened! What is this country coming to when people are able to do this type of stuff!?

It's just plain wrong!

And I did assume it was white people that did it. Does that make me racist?

To be honest people who seem to have these dogs are generally white skinhead types from what Ive seen rather than from black or asian communities.

Maybe in Wales & down South, but here in the North East, most of the owners of Staffies are just normal people, like me.
A lot of women owners I've noticed as well. there's one girl (Very Fit near where I live) that goes out jogging with her Staffie.

I've never associated staffies with being "hard" or aggressive. They are generally very soft, are great with kids and very family orientated, and aren't actually able to be excessively damaging to people due to their small mouths.... IMO. However I do feel they can be aggressive towards other dogs. .

Which is why it makes me laugh when you see the idiots strutting around with them near my old work in South East London, making out they have a wild rabid dog on the lead that is really just looking for a tummy rub!

People seem to think the Staff has replaced the Pit Bull. The Pit Bull can be deadly and is a great dog for keeping the police out of your drug den. Sadly, as with all dogs, it's the tw@ttish owners who are responsible, and I hope the Staff breed doesn't get dragged down too much. The Great Dane is a formidable looking dog, but again, in general, is soft as **** around humans. I have no doubt though that both those dogs get a regular kicking and are probably petrified of all humans, therefore defensive and then aggressive.

I have two Rottweiler puppies, and am struggling to get liability insurance for them as they are more than likely going to kill several people!

We're not talking about PC-gone-mad stuff here. The message of the post is that the poster expects crimes to be committed by black people... pretty clear to me at least. I'm not suggesting censorship but I'm surprised no-one else thinks it's not right. A bit surprised anyway.

Never mind eh. The internet's full of opinions.
I agree with you I think the post reveals ignorance.

It was a bit of a derail really, sorry about that.

I'm not a dog expert (I just like them), but for what it's worth it seems to me that the only dogs that are really troublesome have been made that way by their owners.

this absolutely sickened me when i first heard about it...the first thought that entered my mind was 2 white, skinhead thug types, covered in tatts and draped in liz duke jewellry attacking a completely innocent person...stereotyping of the worst kind i know

even though im never surprised to hear that the various crimes like this are largely attributed to blacks, asians, etc, and this more often than not turns out to be the case, that wasnt my first thought in this instance...

in relation to some of the posts above, if the victim was a drug dealer/local criminal, he probably got what he deserved, but if he was completely innocent, those scumbags deserve to rot in prison...

couldve been anyone on heres dad, brother, husband, etc...

i think a lot of it is due to how the dog has been brought up

any dog can attack if its been brought up that way

Exactly. !!! Like I said before, My Staffie doesn't do anything I won't allow him to do. When I take him out walking, I hardly ever have him on the lead. Don't need to. I've had owners of other dogs (Mostly German Shepherds) struggling to hold there dogs back on the lead from attacking my dog (Staffies & German Shepherd don't seam to get on) while all I've done is tell my dog (Off the lead) to sit & wait. He won't move.

It's called training. Shame other people don't take as much effort into it as others do. Dogs are pack animals and the Alfa male rules. If a dog thinks he's boss, then all you have is trouble. Mine learnt very early on that I'M in charge.

Every Staffie I've ever come across has been well natured and friendly. I may have just been lucky though.
