If he can prove that he most definately needs his car for his work, and/or his family depend on it (ie, only driver with youngsters, disabled, elderly etc to care for) then he may get a bigger fine and points but be allowed to keep driving. There are people out there with much more than 12 points, and many whom have been caught in excess of the +30 ruling who manage to keep mobile.
A bit late to be formulating his defense, he should be well prepared with a good brief really.

103 - it depends if it was when there was a 40 limit on the A483!
Even so, I think he's looking at a ban
*Waves back* I'm good, still smiling are you still at uni then?

The fact that it has got as far as court probably means that he has already missed out on some of the better defences assuming it was a camera job rather than that he was stopped at the scene.
As others have said he really needs to get himself a solicitor who specialises in motoring law, not just any general bloke but someone who really knows what he is doing. However, to be honest if he hasn't already done that then it is probably a bit late now.
The current internet source of wisdom when it comes to defences in such circumstances is www.pepipoo.com but at this late stage they may not have a lot to offer. Worth a try though.

SJ it wasn't restricted at this section thank god!!!
No I'm working up in these parts now! Its been a long time since ive been on here, its good to see some of the old names around
Thanks hedgehog, i will have a look at that site, ive just tried to email him to find out what sort of defense hes got but he hasn't got back to me so i'm not sure!

This why I'm buying a Polish registered E34 530, I'll be able to drive as fast as I like with no fear of speed cameras and our immigrant friends get some much needed funding.
That's the kind of cultural exchange I like.

what's a duel carriageway, is it where you both drive away from each other, then turn round quickly and shoot?

Just heard from him, he didn't get banned, he just got a fine and 6 points, sigh of relief all round i think.
